i saw a doctor today about my eight days of fever and cough, and had no trouble convincing them to take it seriously--they were pretty worried. pneumonia and pertussis are on the list of possibilities. i'm terrified that it is pertussis, since DS isn't totally immune (he's only had 3 of the 5 DTAP vaccines) and it has a 1 in 200 mortality rate for babies. and pertussis is supposed to be incredibly contagious. i will never forgive myself if my baby gets pertussis--my mom had e-mailed me when he was born suggesting that all of the adults get pertussis boosters, and for some reason i never got around to it. so i'm praying that is pneumonia or something else that is less contagious. i'm wearing a mask now at home, which i should have done all along. (again, i'm cursing myself here.)
he started me on antibiotics now since it will take a few days to get results and i'm really sick. i can't really eat anymore, i just have no appetite. eggs and soda are the two things i can consume to try to keep my milk supply going. thank god i was already on domperidone!
please send T&Ps for my LO to stay healthy. thanks to everyone for your support.
Re: saw doctor--it might be pertussis, scared for LO
Diagnosed PCOS & MFI-Success with IUI
If it ends up being pertussis, your LO can take antibiotics just because he has been exposed. And he should be ok since he has had some of the immunizations.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh my gosh I am so sorry. I pray that he does not get it! Ugh you must feel so horrible, this crap just does not end.
I JUST replied to your PM from weeks ago (sorry!) Hugs.
Ditto what others said about knowing what it is right away and being able to treat accordingly. That is a huge help.
Also, my sister and a couple other relatives had it when they were babies. Everyone made it through fine.
Hang in there. I hope you feel better very soon and LO doesn't get what you have, whatever it is.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
Life is beautiful!
my parents are here until wednesday so they are helping a little. poor DH is so burned out though! he's basically been a single parent for a week, since we don't want to expose the baby too much and i haven't really been well enough to do much baby care.
Have you called your pedi? Would they do prophylactic antibiotics for LO?
I worked in a pedi's office when I was in high school and I remembered we had a little boy with pertussis once. He had to come in after hours and the front desk staff had to close all their doors and windows because some of the older staff had not had the vaccine. I remember they were also given antibiotics because they had technically been exposed (and I think at least one of them had young grandchildren).
This was a long time ago and might not be applicable, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.
I hope you are feeling better soon and that it's not pertussis at all!
