I noticed there aren't a lot of names suggested on here that I would consider generally "Hispanic" like Juan or "Black" like LaQuisha. I'm not saying every Hispanic or Black person names their child this way, but it just got me thinking...

I see where you're going with this, BUT don't forget ethnicity and cultural experiences as well. I'm born and raised in Poland, a Spanish teacher, married to an Indian. My son's name is Indian, but I would name my child Mariela, Amaya, Kamila, or Simona in a heartbeat.
I'm white and my name is Anita. I've met Anita's that are white, black, hispanic and Middle Eastern.
I didn't know Anita was considered a Hispanic name until I started taking Spanish classes in high school! Perhaps one reason it reaches across all ethnicities is because it's a variation of a very popular name (Ann/Anna) and people are looking for alternatives?
OP, I see where you're going. Think some people are exposed to different names and cultures and wouldn't think twice about giving a child an Italian FN matched with an Irish surname, though the mother is German. I'm kind of like that. I like names from different lanugages/ethnicitis/cultures beside my own, but DH is kind of picky about it. But I think you've got a valid point because some people on this board might shoot down a name or have certain connotations with it because of that.
I wouldnt call Laquisha a "black" name, I'd call it a ghetto/ignorant name..and most ppl on here seem to have sense...and its just mean to name a child that.

I think this board is pretty good about offering ethnicity-specific suggestions when someone asks for them, but generally falls back on English/British/Celtic names (Henry, Amelia, etc.) and modern American English names (Mason, Kaylee, etc.) in the absence of other information. When someone posts something bland, like, "What's a good middle name for Olivia?!?!1!!" they're going to get the standard Elizabeth, Jane, May, etc.
I think though, that the regular posters here all have a good appreciation for names from cultures other than their own, but often don't suggest those names unless someone specifies that they want a name to sound good in a particular language or fly within a particular community. It's a waste of time to suggest names like Luna and Paloma to someone who says that her top 3 are McKynzie, Mykayla, and Rhighleigh.

Actually, where I live I see alot of white girls that are very ghetto/ignorant acting and usually the baby gets a name like that...
I've always assumed that, based on general preferences and siggy pics, that this board was primarily white.
It is interesting to bring up ethnicity, because I think it does provide some context for name choices. I was thinking about that a bit the other day. My family and I were out to eat, and our waitress' name was Talisa. Now, if that name came up on this board, it would probaby get more negative responses than positive. But on a kind, funny, upbeat, and yes, black, waitress, nothing about the name seemed odd, and nothing about her seemed uneducated. With different cultural context, though, it might give the name a different perception.

I'm white, but my little brother who is adopted is African-American and his name is Jalin Christopher. I like all types of names.
EDIT:::BTW OP your son is absolutely adorable !!
I have a little brother who is adopted and AA as well , his name is Joshua George Russell (my parents chose his middle name but Joshua was his birth name).
Aww, my little brother will turn 4 in July. My other biological siblings are 19 and 23, my parents decided to start all over. My kids really lucked out though because they have a best friend for life.
Its still a ghetto/ignorant name even if the person with the name,is not...because even if your considered "classy" lets say you get set up a blind date n he learns ur name before the date,I bet he will cancel assuming youre just like the name...
Here's a list of some of my friends or their kids names: Aundranika, Yvonne, McGuffey, McGregor, Eden, Jacoby, Jenesis, Journey, Lamona, Lajeana, Tandra, Daeshawn, Deravonte', Aneesa. All are white, except the last 2 who are biracial.

Wow you are a tool. Of course all of your statements are based solely on opinions and not fact at all. Names like Tanisha (meaning the name of a day indicating birth on a Monday) originate in Africa from the Hausa language. Other African languages include Zulu, Swahili, Igbo, and Yoruba. African American boy names also have origins in many languages including French, Latin, English and various languages in Africa. Just because you do not like a name someone gives their child, doesn't mean you have to call them ignorant or ghetto. You're klassy.

This is very interesting to me as my dh is black and I'm white. Some names I pick out he says are too white ( some older traditional names). He likes everything new and trendy. He is not to much for Laquisha type names either, but this is our biggest argument . Whatever I come up with he will say that sounds like an old white lady.

What is the big deal about me saying that it takes a ignorant/heartless person to name their baby that? Laquisha is diff then Lakeisha so keep that in mind you haters! and FTR...I could care less about the "perfection"of my posts...it'll always be that way so do me a favor and shut it....I never said anything to hurt anybody on here just said my opinion..so why try to hurt me? I only said something negative about the name not about any of u..so I should get the same in return.

DAYUM guuuurl! "Z" Snap! That post was WAY more ghetto than the name Laquisha will ever be.
I'm a mixed bag (Brazilian dad, Irish mom) & DH is Tamil (southern India). Our last name is phonetic but since it's 10 letters most Americans panic & can;t pronounce it. If/when we have kids we will be sticking with South Asian names that are easy to Americanize; for example, Saraswati for a girl (Hindu goddess of music) which can be shortened to Sara.

Don't waste your time on her, she's probably just a dragon AE, that wants to start shiit.
Just a lurker's observation: When someone brings up ethnicity as in "My husband is from Portugal and we want a name that is pronounced the same in each country; can you make suggestions?", the responses are very positive.
However, when the ethnicity is African-American, the responses are generally pretty negative. Even "non-ghetto" (and that seems like a very offensive thing that was said) names like Darius or Ebony tend to get pretty negative responses.
To be fair, though, "Southern" or "Country" names tend to get negative responses, too. i don't think it's so much a race thing but what people are used to instead.
For the record, i've known 2 LaQuishas in my life (one was -- uck -- spelled L'Qisha) and while i'm not a fan of the name or particularly that spelling, neither was "ghetto" and in fact both grew up in a primarily white suburb.
That's weird to me, since the only Darius I've ever known was a white boy from the sticks.
