Austin Babies

My nanny just quit. Any advice??

I went from my full time job a part time job (Monday, Tuesday full day, and a half day Wednesday) based on the fact that I did a nanny share with a family that used her full time. This allowed for flexibility during the week (i.e., if I needed to go in to work Thursday instead of Tuesday).

She quit today because she got a job making more money elsewhere. We didn't even know she was looking for another position. I'm really frustrated because I only took the part time job because I had the flexibility of the nanny. At Lyla's age (12 months) it is hard to find part time day care that will work with my schedule.

Anyway, she starts her new job July 5th, and of course, my mom goes out of town July 6th for a month so I don't have any buffer time.

I know the summer just started, so I'm wondering if there are any teachers, students who just graduated from college, etc. that you guys know about who might be interested in working either part time (i.e., just my daughter) or full time (which would be two babies half the week and one baby the other half of the week). We are in North Austin.

I'm about to freak out. If I can just get something set up, even if it isn't permanent then that gives me the summer to at least figure something out.

If anyone knows something that might be an option, please let me know.

  • you may be able to find someone on care.com.  i put a job posting on there several mos ago and had tons of responses.  you can check references & background checks on there.

  • If you don't want to use a service and pay a fee I recommend sittercity.com and care.com. It's relatively cheap and you get quick responses (granted, they will not all be quality). Most of my applicants responded to the original job post within 3 days. You will have to weed through many applicants but it's not difficult. My advice is to write a detailed job description, then choose your top 10 applicants and ask them to respond to 5 questions via email (choose 5 questions you think will tell you about the applicant and help determine if they are a good fit with your family). Probably only 3-5 will respond and then you can phone screen those applicants. This is doable in a week's time. We have hired two nannies through sittercity and the last one I posted the job on Saturday, screened people all week, had onsite interviews on the following Saturday and our new nanny started that next week. You can do it!
  • My cousin is a nanny, but I have no idea about her availability.  You can email me at spanishbeauty08 at gmail if you want her information.
