3rd Trimester

Breech question

I'm only 30 weeks but I was informed today that LO is feet down right now.  My midwife said not to worry but of course I'm a little stressed about it.  She said they would not be alarmed until 36 weeks.  Anyways any encouraging stories or facts would be good to know.  I know about the spinning babies website but I don't think I want to try that until 32 weeks (after my next appointment); because its says you may not be a candidate if you have weak abdominal muscles due to previous pregnancy.  So I want to ask her about doing it before I try.  TIA

Re: Breech question

  • You still have lots of time for baby to turn.

At my 29 week u/s with Perinatolgist, baby was feet down. At 30 week regular OB appt, baby had turned to head down. This was confirmed with 30 week elective 3D u/s we had the next day :) It happens really fast!!!

  • You definitely still have plenty of time for that baby to flip on their own. Mine flipped at almost 38 weeks. My doctor just recommended a lot of walking and said it would keep the baby moving. Thankfully it worked! (She wasnt even concerned at 37 weeks, and said that the baby still had time to flip.)

  • My baby has been transverse/head down for most of the pregnancy. Last week, she randomly flipped to breech for a few days, then flipped back. It is possible for them to move at this point!!!

I did not do anything to flip her back. She just did it on her own.

Your baby will turn numerous times between now and delivery.  Sometimes they turn during delivery.  I don't understand why people make such a big deal about breech when they are months away from term...don't other people's books address this?  All 3 of the books I read did.

My first son was head down from 28 weeks until birth.  Being concerned for my child's well being and my own is a BIG DEAL to me.  There is absolutely no reason to be snarky. I've read plenty of information on pregnancy, childbirth, labor, and delivery I know that most babies flip but not all do.  And by the way 3 books does not make you an expert.

  • My baby was breech at my 32 week appointment according to the doctor.  This past week at my 34 week appointment she was head down via u/s to confirm.  I was worried as a FTM about the breech presentation, but my doctor told me that prior to 34 weeks babies can still flip around quite comfortably.  He also told me that only about 5% of babies don't turn head down by 36 weeks so you still have time.  Also the walking was what my doctor recommended and I have been walking a ton (I'm a registered nurse and walk about 3 miles a day).  Hopefully at your next appointment your little one will turn back head down!
