Can someone explain the difference and pros and cons of pocket diapers vs. all-in-ones? We're probably going to convert to cloth (yayayayay!) and I bought two pockets (an FB and BG). I just want to understand what the other options are.
TIA!

you will probably get a better response on the cloth diaper board, but judging by the 1 All-in-one that I have, the insert is sewn in so there is no stuffing required after washing. The major upside is that they are easier to use (esp for DH and Daycare). The down side is they take way longer to dry.
AIO= no stuffing and no inserts (it's sewn into the diaper)
Pro - no stuffing, as easy to use as a disposable, those unfamilar with CDIng prefer them
Con - they do take a while to dry (however, depending on the brand it doesn't necessarily take that much longer.
The best of both worlds is an AI2 - the insert usually snaps onto the cover, so you can seperate to speed up drying, you don't have to unsnap them to wash/dry

I thought I would prefer pockets and I ended up hating them but I think it's just personal preference. My only tip is to opt for natural [preferably organic] fabrics vs. synthetics, especially on the inside.
I use BG Elemental AIOs when I'm gone for a long time but other than that I use almost exclusively flats and a few fitteds/ prefolds. Flats seemed like they'd be a hassle but they're not at all, they dry fast, and you can get a really trim fit.

I disagree with the recommendation for natural fabrics across the board. DS is super sensitive to wetness so we have to use stay-dry fabrics in order to prevent redness. 1 hour in a natural fabric and he is bright red. I'd prefer organic stuff, but just can't do it with him. I like pockets and don't mind the stuffing. It is nice that my diapers dry so quickly on the line.

I think the big advantage of the pocket over the AIO is the drying time. A lot of CDers line dry. I don't mind stuffing the diapers at all. I actually kind of like doing it. Much better than matching baby socks! You can also add extra stuffing into the pockets for more absorbancy.

lol, big ditto!
Ditto this too. Also, our microfiber inserts work a lot better than our hemp inserts. We use MF now in all our pockets and have no problems.

Do you do this often? If I leave them snapped, the snaps get ripped out and I need to pop them back in place so I always unsnap. I wonder if it's just me?

I do, I have NEVER unstuffed or unsnapped a diaper to wash. The stuffed inserts always seem to agitate out and the snaps always stay together (or atleast one end will). Maybe it's the brand/type of diaper or how new a diaper is? I mainly use Grovia for my AI2. I'm a very lazy CDer

Another obvious major con of AIO is you need a much bigger stash, meaning you need t spend a lot more money. We got a huge stash of second hand pocket diapers that LO is still too small to use, so I can't say from experience on those yet -- however, i really prefer prefolds with thirsties covers. Cheapest and fastest cleaning route. Just buy one or two AIO for your diaper bag for when LO is wiggly.

Personally I loved prefolds for when DD was little, but now that she's on the move she hates to lay down for diaper changes, so now AIOs and pockets are best for us. I'd say the major benefit of pockets over AIOs is that you can get one-size diapers, so you don't have to buy as many. This was especially nice since my DD thinned out, so we actually ended up going back to the smaller size of her diapers after using the medium size. I can still use my one size diapers, but my AIOs are just sitting there.
If you turn AIOs inside out after you wash them and before putting them in the dryer, they dry about just as fast.
