What will LO call their grandparents?

So I just asked my parents what they wanted LO to call them and the said Abo and Mima. A little weird to me since I always called my dad's dad Abo and my moms mom Mima, but I guess if that's what they want I'm not going to argue about it.

My IL's will be called Mom and Papa...again a little weird to me because...well... I'm mom and DH is Papa, but I have four neices and nephews that call them that (and the funny thing is they call their parents the same thing too and somehow noone gets confused except outsiders) so I don't think my kids will call them any differently lol.

Anyone else's parents have special nicknames picked out already?

My parents wanna be Grammy and Pop (they are from Mississippi, and all excited about unique choices)

DH's Mom will be Nana, and his dad doesn't seem to care so I guess I'll teach LO to call him by his first name, Haha just being snarky, he'll probably be Grandpa, cause hes creative like that.

I agree its odd for your MIL to be Mom.

DH's mom and stepdad will be Grammy and PapaJo, assuming LO's cousin (who is older and local) ends up actually using those names when he starts talking.

My folks will be Grandma and Grandpa. My mother assured me that she had no interest in any "crazy names," which is funny because I grew up calling her MIL "Mema."

All eight of them will be called Grandma and Grandpa. If LO wants to give them a nickname he can, but I'm not giving anyone a choice. I don't get this crazy grandparent name trend, all my grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa and it seemed to work out just fine.

Right now my nieces and nephew on my side call my parents Grandma and Papa. I assume LO will end up calling them the same thing since she'll hear them called that. DH's parents don't have specific names they've picked out yet. I know they were thinking about it but in all honesty I think they'll end up being called whatever LO calls them (She's the first grandbaby on this side.) That's how my dad ended up being called Papa, my nephew decided it was easier to say that Grandpa.

DH and I are first generation Americans so for us grandma and grandpa doesn't seem like a "no brainer". We are of hispanic decent where typically grandparents are called abuelo and abuela or some variation of that.

I'm not talking about names that are cultural, to me those are the same thing as grandma and grandpa in other cultures, I wouldn't call those weird names at all. I'm talking about the made up ones I have heard because grandparents don't see themselves as grandparents or just want to be different, to me it seems odd, but that's just my opinion, to each their own.

Probably just grandpa and grandma. H's mom will probably be known to the LO as "Inky" since that is what her current granddaughter has decided she will be called (no one knows why).

FIL: Papa (But he has already expressed hatred to this name and is demanding that when DS is old enough, he starts calling him Grandpa. Really? You can't just go along with whatever endearing name DS comes up with all by himself? Whatever!)

This is the first grandkid for the in-laws and we haven't asked them what they prefer. Nor have they offered up any alternatives to "grandma" and "grandpa." When we announced the pregnancy to them we did so with gifts that said Grandma and Grandpa on them, so I assume that's what they'll be called.

My parents: Nana and Papa (it's what my nephew calls them, it's what I call my paternal grandparents, I love it, it works).

I do think it's weird to have "mom" as the term for a grandma, but if it works for you guys, it works. Plus, it would be hard to "change" it with your child since there's already 4 kids calling her that, especially if your family is close.

We always just used Grandma and Grandpa, but when DD started saying it on her own it became Far Grandma and Grandpa for my ILs (because they live far away) and Grandma or Grandma Shirley for my mom. My dad was Papa before he passed.

MIL tried to name herself Nana for our nephew; not sure if that's been sticking at all or not since I don't think he calls her anything yet (he's 17 mos). DH and I have rejected that and informed her that the grandparents will all be Grandma/Grandpa Last Name! It's the only names that we like, and it's what we've always called our own grandparents. My sis has my nieces call their grandparents Grandma/Papa First Name, and I just don't like that. To me "Papa" sounds weird and the use of the first names sounds disrespectful.

No idea! As my dad says, there is no point trying to force the child to call them something because whatever they come up with on their own will be what sticks. That is how it happened for my grandparents anyway. Both of my grandmothers were Nanny *last name* and my grandfathers were Daa and Poppy thanks to what my older brother came up with. My grandmother hated being called Nanny because "she isn't a goat!", but it is what stuck and we did not change it.

ugh...all of the names our parents have picked out are fine except for my Dad's----he INSISTS on being called Chief. I HATE it! It was his rank in the military, which makes me hate it more becasue I don't think kids hsould have anything to do with a retired grandpa's rank in his job. It's stupid.

I have NO idea. DH seems to think that LO will designate her own names for them, but I want to be able to call them something... i.e. "We're going to so-and-so's house!" Well,... what do we call them? Living relatives already have the names Granna, Nanna, Grandma, Pawpaw, Meema and Beebo (the last two are not mine- it's what DH's cousin's kids call her grandparents). So I feel like I'm getting limited on names and nothing seems to fit them. MIL and FIL aren't really "Grammy and Pops" types.
