I should be psyched, but...

I'm not haha.  My principal has been trying to get in touch with me and I was at the school today to drop off report cards and progress reports, so I checked in.  Turns out, I will have professional status when I return to work for the first day of the school year next year.  This means, much more job security and more preference in where I want to be teaching.

The downside, DH and I had started seriously considering me taking next year off.  My sister wanted to head back to work for three days a week, but was having trouble finding a babysitter.  So, she was going to pay me to watch her four kids (one in school the entire day, another in school half day) that way we had a little bit of income still coming in.  But, my principal is retiring this year and if I take the year off, I start back at square one when I return in terms of status and would not be guaranteed a return to my school or age group, which I really enjoy.

Looks like I will need to suck it up and get ready to return to the classroom next year and think about staying home for a couple of years when we have DC #2 sometime down the road.

Re: I should be psyched, but...

  • I have considered taking a year off (it's allowed in our contracts) and would be guarenteed a job teaching the same subject (English 7-12th grade), but would not be guarenteed the same school or grade level--really the district could put me where ever they decide to when I come back.

I'll be returning for this reason... I'm hoping when we're ready to have #2 I won't have to return at any point so it won't matter.
