Another IL rant

We had brunch at the IL's for Father's Day.  BIL and SIL brought a yummy fruit salad, which DD was looooving.

It had strawberries in it, which I didn't think was a big deal.  DD is one now and has had strawberries before, though usually they were mixed in yogurt.  These were fresh, native, juicy strawberries though, and she had them all over her face and hands.

We ate brunch, oohed and ahhed over DD, the usual.  As DH is wiping DD down afterward, he mentioned how much strawberry juice had gotten on her arms.  MIL says, "Oh, I remember when you and [BIL] were little, you'd always get a rash from strawberries.  You'd both get it all over whenever you at them."

Indifferent  Jeez, MIL, that would have been good to know BEFORE she bathed in fruit salad.

(DD had a little bit of redness on her arms and face, but was mostly fine.  I probably wouldn't even have noticed if I hadn't been on high alert.  Ugh!)

  • Would have been good to know. Strawberries can cause rashes on a lot of kids due to the acidity in them but it is usually minor.

  • I hear you, but at the same time - she didn't raise her kids in a time where allergies are in our face everywhere we turn.  It probably just isn't on her radar.  It was just a "little rash" that wasn't a worry.

Oh, I know.  I'm not really that paranoid about allergies in general, it was more that she didn't mention it until after we were all finished.  And this is just one in a long parade of things that MIL is clueless about (and why I dread the first time I have to leave DD alone with her!).
