Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Do you use lullaby music to help your LO sleep?

I am thinking of trying to put LO in the nursery to see if she sleeps better without me waking up and tossing and turning, albeit as quietly as I can. (She started waking up 3-6 times a night after STTN for months)

I read that lullaby music helps soothe babies back to sleep. I am thinking of playing it softly all night. Is that a good or bad idea?

Also - what is your favorite lullaby CD?

TIA!

  • Our LO still sleeps in the room with us...but we play music for her and our toddler. Not so softly. We also use it for naptime. The great thing is that it blocks out noise, so that we don't have to worry about creeping quietly around the house. the negative...if we don't have it (especially for our toddler) sleep is very difficuly.
  • Loading the player...
  • we just started doing this.  DS is used to the music at his daycare so why not at home!  i've downloaded a lot from hushabye baby and rockabye baby on itunes.  baby einstein is always a good choice too.

Hmmm. Not sure I want to deal with another "sleep crutch". Thanks for sharing!

  • I love Rockabye Baby!  They have all the great rock bands - except I've found I can't sing along to a lot of them, since the words to the songs aren't always baby-friendly.  Stick out tongue  We've started using lullabye music as part of DS's bedtime routine, and it really works.  We turn it on while we do his bedtime routine (bath, lotion, diaper, pajamas), then turn it off and put him to bed without the music.  It works really well for us!

If you're looking to drown out noise without creating an all-night dependency on music, might I suggest a HEPA filter or fan?  Once we turn off the lullabye, we turn on the HEPA filter in the room, which creates some nice white noise...this way he doesn't wake up at every little peep.

  • We have a fisher price aquarium for each kid. It plays 18 minutes of either nature sounds or music. DS can't turn it on by himself but DD knows how, and she turns it on herself overnight and falls back asleep on her own.

  • We just use a CD of white noise. Helps him fall asleep and drowns out any outside sounds.

  • We use the FP seahorse that play for 5 minutes to help her settle down and let her humdifier fan run all night (we arent filling it, just moving air around)  It makes enough noise to cover up house noises but she does ok without it.

  • We have a CDof ocean waves that repeats all night. We used the sleep sheep, but that ended after 45min, and we realized looking on the video monitor that C wakes up easily with noise (so does DH). I'm worried it will become a crutch, but he started STTN the day we used the non stop CD so we'll roll with this for a few more months and see if we can wean him off during the toddler years.

  • We have a baby crack machine and it is set on the lullabies which we leave on all night.  Olivia has a soud machine which is left on songbirds all night.
