Success after IF

question re: location of Dr.

We are moving back to OH in two weeks so I need to find DS a pediatrician ASAP.  He'll be due for his 6 month shots two weeks after we get there.

My good friends sister has a very well known practice so I want him to go there however, we aren't totally sure where we will live long term (living in corporate housing until our house here sells etc.).  Do you think its a big deal if the Dr. is 20+ minutes away from where you live / work?

Re: question re: location of Dr.

  • 20 minutes doesn't seem that far at all. We walk to our pedi's office, but the walk takes us 15 minutes most days. I would def do it for a doctor I felt good about.

    Because we're fancy like that.

  • Our pedi was about 20 mins away until we moved.  Now they are about 5 mins away.  Where we live, though, 20 mins just isn't that far at all!

My bigger concern, actually, would be hospital rights.  Do they have rights to a hospital that is closer to you?  If your DS were ever taken to and admitted to a hospital, you'd want your pedi to be able to come.  If they don't have rights, they can't see your DS.

  • I chose a pediatrician 30 minutes away, but the office is good so it is worth it. I would rather drive a little than be unhappy with the office. I say go for it.

  • Ultimately it depends not just mileage away but how you get there.

20 min isn't bad. Ours is 20 min away and they're only 6mi away distance wise. The only way there is street routes with lots of stop-lights and traffic. So just consider how you'd get there, not just physical distance to.
