Is there a 3 month growth spurt?

DS has been wanting to nurse constantly lately,so much so that he's been overeating and spitting up a lot.  Sometimes I try and distract him and do another activity but I feel like I can't even do anything else with him except nurse.  If I hold him for 5 minutes, he's signaling me for more booby.

Re: Is there a 3 month growth spurt?

  • I think DS went through a growth spurt last week.  He was eating a ton, more than usual.  And even into this week he is eating more now.

  • Usually I nurse LO for about 5 minutes when he gets up at night. Last night he adamantly REFUSED to let go. He fussed so much that I ended up giving him both boobs-which I haven't done since he was born!

  • I never knew there was a 3 month growth spurt until you guys started mentioning it. Either LO never went through it or I was really, really lucky with how he dealt with it. From the sounds of some people, it's like having a newborn all over again! Wishing a speedy recovery for everyone going through this right now!

  • I believe there is. Last week, DS would spend one day wanting to eat constantly, and the next day sleeping a lot more than usual. He was sleeping through the night pretty consistently, and then all of a sudden was getting up 1-2 times to eat. Last night he finally slept 9 hours straight, so I hope that we are almost through it!

  • It doesn't necessarily have to be a 'growth spurt', but also a need for more closeness or going through a developmental leap that makes them want to be close to mommy because their world is getting bigger and more demanding ... as their senses develop and they're able to take more in (see, feel, touch, hear, etc.).  The book 'The Wonder Weeks' helped me to understand that ...  Or your LOs may also be thirstier thanks to the hot weather, I know mine is.  My pediatrician told me it's ok to give them some water from a bottle from 3 months up.

    Hang in there! :)

  • Quite possibly.  For the last two WEEKS DS had been up to eat every two hours - it really was like having a newborn again.  Just Saturday night he went back to sleeping 8-5, so hopefully that phase is over.
