Melissa1985 and other Chicago people

DH and I kind of want to go to the Taste one last time as a couple.  (We'll be in the area anyway.)  I'll still be three weeks before my duedate; am I crazy to think of trying it?  In general I'm not loving heat and crowds right now, but I really don't want to miss out on doing fun things during our final weeks as a family of two.

  • I'm going Smile  I love the Taste!  If possible, go during the week.  The crowds are about half the size (unless a big musical act is playing that night).  I usually try to avoid going on weekends, because it just gets too crazy in there.  And bring a chair, you'll be fine!

  • Ditto!  Just go during the week and especially off-hours.  There tends to be a lunch rush of loop workers- so it can get a bit crazy around noon.

I would never go on the weekend- unless I was going to drink a lot (which would make the crowds bearable IMO).  :)

It will be interesting to see if the crowds are smaller with all of the changes this year. . . no big name bands, no fireworks, etc.

I agree, go during the week if you can! I truly hate heat and crowds so I don't think I'll be going (even though it's only a mile and a half away from our condo). I might change my mind if it's not too warm though - anything for greasy food. :)

I'm sure you'll be fine, just wear comfy shoes.

I am super bummed about the changes, it was so great to be able to see some of those bands for free, and the fireworks were always amazing.  Sad

Yeah, that's the thing.  We'll probably only be able to fit it in during the weekend.

Have we talked about how jealous I am of that?  I lived in that area for about a month when I was working on a contract there and I really loved it.

  • Will you be downtown anyway?  If so, just head over and see how it goes- if the crowd is too crazy- just head to Millennium Park or the Art Institute instead.

  • If I was going to be in the area anyway, absolutely I would go.

You're funny. :) I love living downtown but I don't love living right off Michigan Ave at times - especially in the summer when it's very touristy. My patience always thins in the summer lol.

  • I'm totally going as well! My friends told me I was crazy when I mentioned that I was adamant about going earlier on in my pregnancy, and though they were right in that I do swell like crazy in the heat, I will not be held back :op I'm heading to Dominick's today to get my discounted tickets

Seriously, the tourists are tough to handle sometimes.  Why, at 8 months pregnant, am I still walking faster than you!!  Get outta my way, and stop hogging the sidewalk Stick out tongue

  • It gives me anxiety to even THINK about doing the taste this year, or any big fest downtown this summer. I am missing Pride, which I haven't missed in 6 years... But I'll be way too pregnant and my little crowd gets a bit rowdy. Have fun though!

  • I live in the city but avoid the taste and all festivals like the plague being this close, not to mention how uncomfortable I am right now. The though of using a porta potty grosses me out too since I have to use the bathroom every 30 minutes! If you are up for it, I say do it but I'd definitely go on a weekday when the crowds will be lighter.  I'd make DH bring a chair for you to sit on too.  The people watching is always so amusing.

I find myself wanting to yell this at people ALL the time lately! I also want to inform people that the Lakeshore path isn't the best place to take pictures and please stop looking annoyed at those of us walking/running there!

I can appreciate that!  Since I was only there a month I was sometimes one of those obnoxious tourists, I'm sure, but I do always try not to just stop randomly in the street or poke along on a busy sidewalk like a lot of people.

  • I live pretty far out in the burbs, so I won't be making any more trips into the city for fun events before this baby is born (although I do have to go in for a consult at UIMC on Wednesday).  I do love the Taste though and wish we could go.  I'll echo the PPs and say it's probaby a better idea to try to avoid the weekend crowds.  Good luck with your decision!
