recommend your childproof safety door locks

DS climbs into our bed at about 5 or 6 every morning. I started bootcamp today at 5:30 and he had just come into our bed when I left. I guess he went looking for me even though I explained what I was doing, put him in bed with DH & asked him to go back to sleep. He unlocked and opened our side door and was down the street when a neighbor who we didn't know brought him home (DS told him where we live). Obviously we are scared and all the "what-ifs" are running through our heads.

What safety locks to do use on your exterior doors? Do you recommend them?

    Scary! 

    I'm not sure on locks (maybe the slider or chains like hotels have?).

    But, what about door alarms?  We have a whole-house alarm that is monitored, so that would have went off, but I know you can get just little kits for individual doors. My ILs had some foster kids that were night walkers and they used them on the bedroom door.

    We just have the safety knobs on the outside door knobs. DD1 (and most adults) is unable to open the door with those on.
    Child #1: 6 yo DD Child #2: 2yo DD
