Pack and Play for sleeping?

We are going to have Norah sleeping in a room that is off from our bedroom at first and were debating on getting a bassinet or a pack and play for her to sleep in. We will move her to her crib in the nursery later on (we'll let her take naps in there early on to get used to it). My question is this.. Will she be OK sleeping in a pack and play? I've put in the link to the one we are looking at. This is our first time around with all of this so we are pretty clueless. If a bassinet is better, we'll get that for her to sleep in and just have this for trips, etc., but I just hate to spend the money on a bassinet if this works just as well/better.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Pack and Play for sleeping?

  • I'd buy whatever fits better in your room (unless you're sleeping in there with her) because you really want a newborn close to you the first few weeks.

  • She will be fine. Babies use pack and plays for naps and sleeping all the time.

    Love her name, btw.

That's perfectly fine and safe to use.  And it saves you from having to buy another baby item.  I loved our pack n play with our son (ours has the same features yours has, but different colors).  We had planned for him to go right in the crib when we got home, but I ended up with a C/S so we put him in our room in the PNP (it was hard for me to get in and out of bed quickly). After 2 weeks we put him in his room in the crib, and he didn't have any problems transitioning.  It also was great for traveling, we used it until he turned 2 and began sleeping in a bed.  I'm also one of the few that would let him play in it (on the beach, porch, etc) when it was nice to keep him contained and safe.

  • Our pack and play has a insert in it so it can be a bassinet too and takes regular bassinet sheets.

  • We registered for this same thing. I think it is so nice to have the bassinet attached to the PNP. It's like two items for the price of one :)

  • We got a PnP with a basinet for our baby to sleep in, in our room, for the first few weeks at least.  Our house is a modified bilevel, so our master bedroom is up a small flight of stairs from the main floor and I don't want to be going up and down the stairs 17 times a night at first.

  • My nephew slept in a PnP for a good majority of his first year. My SIL had it in their bedroom and that is where he would sleep until he woke up to feed. Usually he ended up in bed with them after that lol. I don't think he slept in his crib until after 6 months old.

And his PnP looks ALOT like that one!

Thanks! Deciding on a name was difficult for us. LOL!

    Thanks ladies! :)

  • I'm really glad you asked this because we want LO to room-in with us at home for the first two months or so and even though we're getting a free pack'n'play from a friend, I registered for a bassinet for rooming-in.  It's good to know we can use the pack'n'play if we don't/can't get the bassinet.

  • We registered for the same PnP!  We don't plan on using it for a regular bassinet, but wanted it for travel - going up to my mom's, or hotels.

  • We are getting a pack and play instead of a basinette. I figure that it is really two things in one and will help us to save a little money.

  • With my first daughter we had her sleep just outside our room the first few weeks in her pack n play.  It had a top bassinet thing on it.  She was totally fine.  It was winter, we swaddled her in a sleep sack thing and she slept just fine.  This time around this one has to sleep in our room so she doesn't disturb DD #1 with her night feedings.  So I want to buy a stationary bassinet for our room.  Either way you are fine.  No way is better than the other.

  • We are doing a P'n'P instead of a bassinet. All four of my nanny kids started out in one (actually they all started out sleeping in the changing table portion so my boss could see the baby from the bed since the changing table was up higher in the P'n'P than the newborn raised portion). Then they started sleeping in the attached raised portion and by the time they were able to sit, they were moved into a regular crib.

That is what we are planning on doing with our LO. My other boss had a bassinet for her son and it only lasted until he was 3 months old because he was so long that he was cramped in it.
