Hello!
I'm new to the bump and wanted to introduce myself. DH and I are going to start TTC in the fall, September I think... so I'm just trying to get a few things in order, launch my home business and check off my pre-conception to do's. I'd love to glean as much as I can from all you bumpies. No one really knows about our plans, so this is my outlet to vent excitment, fear, etc.
Thanks!
B.E.
Re: Lurker no more :)
Hi and welcome!
I was directed to FertilityFriend.com when I came to TB, and I have to say it was very helpful in understanding TTC. Go and check out the tutorials, get yourself a BBT thermometer ($9 Target or Amazon) and start charting. If you want more information, check out TCOYF (google it). I never O when I thought I did, so good to know before we start.
Start taking prenatal vitamins now so that you're getting enough folic acid. Any kind will do, you don't need a Rx.
Make an appointment with your GYN and your dentist if you haven't been, and then make a appointment with your SC to sit down and talk finances. You don't have to have a crazy budget in place, but it helps to have a check in to see where you're at and what your goals are for saving, spending, etc.
Welcome and GL!
Thanks for all the info! I've actually just started taking the prenatals last week and I just made a dentist apt. yesterday. My current GYN isn't an OB but she's on the other side of town... so rather than go to someone else in the same office I just found somewhere to go near by. Should I bother to start charting while I'm still on the pill?
Thanks again
Good question!
I'll say yes, for this reason: it took me a month of temping before I naturally woke up and stuck my thermometer in my mouth. Like anything new, I'm likely to forget if I don't do it a lot to get in the pattern of it.
Because your cycle is still controlled, you won't see much of a temp shift or a change (if at all) in your cm. Think of it as practice though, so that when you're off the pill charting will be a natural thing to do.
The only other thing I could have said before is to give yourself a health check - how do you feel healthy wise? If you need to loose a few pounds, or get more fit, now is the time to do it - 1) a strong body will help you carry your baby.* (Getting fit is wonderful, but it won't exclude you from some problems of pregnancy - incompetent cervix to name one. SO do this for you, not as a pancea for all problems TTC). By being fit and strong, you're more likely to avoid some troubles that occur during pregnancy. I'm not suggesting that anyone begin a drastic weight loss a la Biggest Loser. I will say that focusing on eating healthier and getting off of our duffs and just moving will be great. You can help build up some core muscles, abdominal muscles, back muscles, legs, arms... all these things that will help you feel good during your pregnancy. Also, TTC can be lengthy and frustrating for some. If you make regular exercise a part of your plan, you've also incorporated stress relief and other things to focus on.
GL!
Hi, I'm a newbie too & also going to start TTC this fall. I'm in the same boat as you with not telling anyone about plans for TTC but too excited to keep it a complete secret. There's so much to learn from the info posted by the bumpies here! Anyways, GL with your to-do list and I hope your search for an OB nearby you goes well.
