It's a Girl!

Sorry for the long delay in updating you ladies.  Needless to say, our labor went a lot longer than planned and we just got home today from the hospital.

Last I told you they had put me on pitocin and it was going slow.  Well, after 13 1/2 hrs of pitocin they realized that they had me on the wrong dosage - someone had given me the bag that had post-partum dosage which is only about 1/3 the strength of what labor dosage is.  Yes, we could have gotten mad about this BUT it was a blessing because it allowed my body to create receptors and gradually adjust to the drug so that when they did put me on the right dosage my body didn't go from zero to sixty immediately and I was able to tolerate it. This was at about 7:30 Thurs evening (after my water broke at home at 2:30 Wed AM, having gone to hospital at 4:30 Wed PM and having the foley bulb put in to dilate my cervix at 6 Wed PM since I had "olly go"  (sp?) which is below-normal amniotic fluid level.

About 10:30pm Thurs my water broke AGAIN (which is an explanation I'm not going into here) and I FINALLY went into active labor.  About 12:30am (Fri) they checked my cervix and I was at 4cm.  An hour later I was ready to push and the midwife and nurse were like "are you sure?  you do sound like you're in transitional labor but . . . " so they checked me and I was already at 9 1/2cm - in only an hour!  This was great because I was able to start pushing, even though it took 3 hours of pushing to deliver.  It was awesome too because I did it all natural, no pain meds and with gravity-friendly positions.  Needless my body feels like it was put through an Iron Man competition, run over by a mack truck and turned inside out, but it was all worth it.

Finally at 4:56am Friday morning - 50 1/2 hrs after our journey began - Felicity Paige was born!  Thank you for your words of encouragement to my earlier post.

I dont post here very often but I remember you saying that you were delivering at UNC. I am a L+D nurse at UNC and I was working Thursday when you were there. I was checking out the bump and saw your post that you were there. What a small world! I think I saw you doing laps. Were you in 4W07?

I hope this doesnt sounds creepy. I just thought it was cool!

Yes!  That was me!  And no, it's not creepy.  I was very pleased with my experience there and everyone on 4th floor was wonderful, and we liked all the staff we worked with on the 5th floor except for one nurse.  You are lucky to get to have a job working with miracles every day.
