BFing mommas ? for you

How do you know if you have a clogged duct?

Re: BFing mommas ? for you

  • I've had 2 clogged ducts.  Both times I was really sore in a very specific spot.  It feels like a sore muscle or like a really bad bruise when you touch it.  I also got red spots in that one area and my breasts were hot to the touch.  It hurts like he!! to push on them, but the best thing you can do to unclog them is to nurse as often as possible and massage the area when you do.  You can also take hot showers and massage the area.  As much as it may hurt, the more you massage it, the quicker it will go away.

I had one on my areola and it was red, there was a lump that wouldn't go away with nursing. Hurt terribly when I touched it! I also had a headache the day before and the day I found it, I never get headaches, could be a coincidence though. It came on quickly. I used moist heat really hot too, I also filled a disposable diaper put it in the microwave put it on the spot and used a heating pad (all at different times). I manually expressed the spot since it was on the inside part of my boob and was hard to get LO's nose pointed that way. I also took Advil. It was gone within a day but it was pretty painful. Hopefully you don't have one but maybe take some measures to avoid it get worse if you think you have one. Feel better!!!

  • I've had clogged ducts twice. It felt like a hard spot in my breast that was tender to the touch. I would usually massage it in a hot shower (painful, but will relieve that pressure in the end) and that would do the trick.

  • It felt like LO was biting my nipple when she was nursing. I had a milk blister on my nip, and my breast felt uncomfortable and lumpy. I did a hot compress and put her on to nurse and felt a really painful sensation in my breast followed by almost immediate relief of the pressure. Also, when she was done nursing there was a raw 'hole' where the blister was. I put apno on it and repeated the compress the next morning and it healed in a few dAys. 1ht
  • same as above, soreness like a bruise and hardness that wouldn't go away.  I also had a teeny tiny white blister on my nipple that I popped with a needle (it didn't hurt) and then pumped.  presto, relief!  It sill hurt to nurse on that side for a about a week but it went away.  HOWEVER, that was about two weeks ago and now I have mastitis in that same breast...although I think my lack of sleep etc contributed to that more than anything.  Massage and compresses would not get rid of my blocked duct though...
