Well, for a long time DD has had an irritation on her cheeks. It's splotchy red and eventually developed what look like white heads. Some days it's barely there, others it's horrible. She also started getting clear like bumps alll over her nose and up to her forehead, but she has nothing anywhere else on her body. Now, she has a horrible diaper rash right around her rectum that was red bumps. They gave us a cream for yeast. Didn't work. Now we are back to trying to figure out what is causing the horrible cheek/rectum irritation.
Her pedi asked today what I've consistenly given DD. Every day she gets formula and oatmeal with a fruit and with a veggie. Twice a day. That is the only constant. I also started giving her gerber puffs in the last 2 weeks. So, the only conclusion she can draw without going through testing (yet) is to cut wheat and oat.
Has anyone dealt with this with your LO? I'm lost as to what else it could be. She is absolutely in love with gerber puffs. Are there any out there gluten free?
Re: MSPI- now possible wheat/oat allergy?
Not sure if these are gluten-free, but they are corn-based. They are the only ones I can give my daughter.
Cinnamon Maple
The ingredients are:
WHOLE GRAIN CORN MEAL, CORN OIL, SUGAR, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, CINNAMON, NATURAL CINNAMON MAPLE FLAVOR, MIXED TOCOPHEROLS (FOR FRESHNESS), ZINC OXIDE, ELECTROLYTIC IRON, ALPHA TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (VITAMIN E)
My daughter has a banana allergy. I found out through her consistently pushing them away and getting a little red around the mouth. Then we had a blood test performed and she tested positive.
When did you introduce oatmeal and puffs? Did you introduce them together or were you doing the oatmeal for awhile and then a week or two later introduce the puffs? I'm asking because maybe it is one vs the other that is causing the issues (it could be both of course too). Does she itch her skin a lot with the bumps?
Would you possibly be able to do Baby Mum Mums?
Also, if there is a problem with wheat it doesn't necessarily mean she has a problem with gluten. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, and rye (and possibly oats). If there is just a wheat allergy or sensitivity then you should be able to feed the other grains.
we had pulled everything he had tested positive for and saw a reaction/eczema rash when he had bananas. His blood work that we did after that showed a very slight reaction- not high enough to consider it a true "allergy" but our dr. wanted us to avoid them until we re-test this fall just to be safe.
Also- someone suggested mum-mums and if I'm remembering correctly- they have milk in them (or one of our triggers- I know we couldn't keep offering them after his dx).
I would get her tested for the top 8. Or do an illumination diet and pretty much start from scratch. and re-introduce food like it was for the first time.
Also, there are a ton of cereals that are milk, soy, and gluten free. I know rice krisp cereal (sorry -probably spelling it wrong) and chex has gluten free cereal and i know it's milk and soy free also since that's what my son eats all the time. Try that for a bit and see if it works.
what kind of chex did you find? The only box I looked at had milk. I'd love to offer a new cereal! And I'm super tired of eating kix all the time (he can't eat the whole box before it gets stale so DH and I end up eating a LOT of kix so we don't have to toss it
)
the chex i use is gluten free (i believe it's corn or rice chex). I think both are soy/milk free. it's the first two from their website. click on the box and you get the ingredients but mine isn't coming up correctly.
I would go through all the cereal boxes.. you'd be surprised how many are gluten / milk / soy free.. i never checked b/c i automatically assumed he can't have it.
