Still not comfortable....

Cutting LO's nails!  People have told me to nibble them off, but for some reason that does not work very well for me!  Others have told me to cut them when he is asleep, but he pulls away and I get freaked out.  Any advice for this scratched-up mom???

    im in the same boat. the first time i trimmed them i just used an emory board, but they were still kinda sharp on the edges and it took a long time. thats my project for the weekend. im going to clip when she is in a good mood and try to file after.

     

    PS i love your picture! i am obsessed with my DDs feet!

    I make my mom do it.  I am totally terrified of hurting her so if anything happens, mom is there to comfort her from the EVIL Grammy.  Wink

    I try but I'm terrible at it. I trim/file them like every other day and he still has scratches on his face. I feel terrible about it but he DIGS into his face when he's tired/cranky,

    I do it while he is nursing and he doesn't care. Any other time he squirms

    The first few times I did it was when he was asleep, and he pulled away once or twice, which was kind of scary.  The last time I trimmed them, I did it when he was awake but really relaxed and in a happy mood.  He didn't seem to mind at all, and I think it worked better.

    I trim her nails right after she finishes nursing, so she is either asleep or in a milk daze.

    I just make one little snip on the edge of the nail, then peel the rest off.  Luckily, so far no nails have peeled too far down.  Seems to work pretty good!  When he was one week old, I clipped his finger and felt soo bad!

    After having to pretty much sit on my older daughter to clip her nails I can do the younger girl's nails with my eyes closed. I don't know how long it was that I felt comfy doing DD 1's but definitely do it now, do it often, keep them used to it, so that hopefully it won't be too hard later.

    Thanks ladies!  DH and I have both clipped his skin once over the months and so we are both freaked out about it!  I will try some of your ideas.....gulp!
