Literally or philosophically? I think your "Newb" badge turns to bronze at 1,800 - 2,000 posts. Some will consider you to be a Newbie long beyond your badge status based on your post content and board actions - much the same way that someone quite young can be considered wise beyond her years, and vice versa.
SandNSurf:
And what if the moderator of a board is extremely rude in most all of her replies to Bumpies posts?
Are you sure this isn't perception? When you communicate via print, you lose a large part of a typical conversation - body language, tone of voice, inflection, etc. Frequently responses can be taken the wrong way simply because the reader misunderstood their intent, or the author worded herself poorly.

Interpretation is definitely key... i just didn't think anything of it until I saw someone else post something about the mod on their board and so I clicked on the other posts made by the mod and had to agree with her. She's never been rude to me, but I did notice her comments were very smirky...
Re: how long before i'm no longer a newb... and how to send a message
1. 2,000 posts?
2. Find a post that they're in, and go down to where it says "contact" under their post and it will say "send a private message"
3. no idea
thanks - sorry - just realized the PM question is answered under board rules... I overlooked it.
