Talk to me about Cricut please

I want one! However, I don't know a lot about them and am wondering which one to get? Is there a huge advantage to getting the "expression" over other models? Are they pretty easy to use?

Tell me about which one you have and what you like/don't like about it!

Thanks!

I have the Expression and I use it for everything I possibly can. I even used it to make the letters for our Messy Masterpiece project:

The Expression is also better because you can use the cartridges from all the other Cricut models in the Expression, but you cannot use the Expression cartridges in the other models. I love mine. It's totally worth every cent. And if you do get one, you should go and buy SureCutsALot before the Provo/SCAL lawsuit shuts them down. That software allows you to plug the Cricut into your computer and use any font you have + draw your own images. It is the best!

  • I have the Circut Personal Machine and I love it, I bought this one because I was able to get it for $59.99 on Black Friday. With that being said If I was going buy a cricut at full price or near full price I would not have gotten that one, I would have bought the Expression. I am a lot more limited in what I can do with the smaller maching.

  • After doing a bunch of research, I would look at a Silhouette instead of a Cricut.

I have a Silhouette SD and I LOVE it.  I like that I can buy the individual images I want (usually 99 cents in their online store) instead of having to buy entire cartridges, and use any font on my computer.  I also love their print & cut feature, it lets me print anything imaginable and then have the Silhouette cut it out exactly.  If you have any questions about it you can email me at deborahsw @ gmail.com.  :)

I recently threw a baby shower at work and used my Silhouette for pretty much everything, you can see pics where for examples of some of the things it can do, like the little food picks with the rabbits were all printed on my home printer and cut with the Silhouette:

  • I loved the idea of a Cricut, but I love the idea of someone else owning it and letting me use it more. I don't care if I have to toss some money their way or replacement sheets...it's nice not having to store it in my house :)

Other than that, it's pretty fun - especially for parties. I think Dawn uses hers quite a bit.

Does the Silhouette do the printing or do you print on your own printer first for that?

you guys are making me want to get one of these things!

  • I love, love, love my cricut expression.  I also use the cricut design studio software and Sure Cuts Alot 2 with my laptop because I love the control over how much paper you use and the sizing it gives me.  I buy all my cricut cartriges on ebay, I never pay more than $15 (free shipping) for them.  I bought my expression for $199 with free shipping 3 yrs ago off ebay!  I use this machine to cut everything!

The Silhouette doesn't print.  You print on your own printer but it puts these bracket lines in each corner of the paper.  Then when you put it through the Sihouette it "reads" the lines to get an exact orientation of the page so it can cut the shapes you printed exactly.  That's one big way I prefer it over a Cricut - sometimes I just want to print out a clipart/design that's already colored in and cut it (like the Peter Rabbit illustrations), instead of having to cut out all of the layers of a shape on different colored paper and assembling it.

the newest cricut has this feature now too. I saw a infomercial for it the other night.

  • I also just got a Silhouette and adore it. I don't do that much papercrafting and have already used it a ton. SO fun!
