Success after IF

Which berries are ok for babies?

I know strawberries are the big no nos... can we do raspberries or blueberries?  I was eating some raspberries earlier and offered it to the boys without thinking.... Alex didn't seem to hate it which is HUGE in our house... but we are also dealing with an egg allergy with him.

Ugh - so confusing!

  • i know that they include both raspberries and blueberries in store-bought baby food, so they're probably okay!

They're all fine. No need to avoid strawberries, unless you have a family history of allergy.
  • Umm didn't know abt the strawberries.. We do them J loves them, raspberries, melon cantaloupe, grapes, watermelon.. Ect. I would hold off on the strawberries though if you have allergies. Also peaches!
  • We offer them all, but I've heard some people delaying strawberries. Mmmmm.... Berries...

Will loves them all! Our pedi had no issue with introducing strawberries right away! Enjoy!!
  • Our pedi says all berries are fine, unless you have a history of allergies in the family.

Caroline has never met a berry she didn't like ;-)

  • Didn't know about strawberries either. We have given Maya all the different berries this whole time and she has done fine with them.

  • Good question.  With Kira at this age we all info pointed to no strawberries/raspberries/blackberries in the first year, and I felt so cruel!  Elena missed strawberries since she was so young in May, and my mom said the raspberries may not be ready when we're in Seattle in a few weeks (and I know we'll be too early for blackberries), but it'd be nice if we at least had the option.  Still, I do know that blueberries were said to be OK since they're a single berry rather than a berry cluster like the others, so Kira ate a lot of them her first summer, and I'm sure Elena will in the coming months too.  I had wondered if info had changed since it seems some food rules have lessened a bit, on average.  Thanks!
