Eye patching = skin irritation :(

So we have been patching DDs left eye for two hours a day for about a month, now. She did fine with it at first, but then last Saturday when I took the patch off she had what looked like abrasions on her cheek where the adhesive was. I just figured it was from repeted use of the patch, so I left it off for a week. Then I put it back on her Friday...same thing. Abrasions and blisters on her cheek where the adhesive touches her skin. I bought a different brand of patch, but haven't been able to try them yet because the blisters are still there. Any other suggestions?

    Nate got a couple of red areas too. After he got an unintentional brow-wax from one of those patches I started to "knock-down" the adhesive with a bit of baby powder. You just tap your finger into it and then tap it around the adhesive and leave a few spots open for the stickiness. Good Luck!

    We haven't done this yet (thinking we will soon since DDs eyes are wandering more and more), but what about if you got one of those eye patches on a string. For lack of better description, the kind you would use if you were dressing up as a pirate for halloween. . . ? Or could you somehow make a DIY patch like that with a headband at a diagonal on the face and a cosmetic/face pad to cover the eye?

    I use the ortopad usa patches for DD#1.  They cause a bit of redness (she has really sensitive skin) but no break down.  Otherwise I would ask the eye md for recommendations on gentler patches.  I've tried the diy patches and they didn't work since she could get them off easily.  They have patches that go over glasses and you could put them over sunglasses if the MD thinks that'll work as well.

    My son had to wear a patch for a long time.  Daily for 2 hours, then increased to 4 hours (and he had 2 eye surgeries).  Anyhow, the advice we were given was to slightly wet the patch before removing it, which seemed to help a bit.  I don't think he ever got blisters, but redness would come and go.  We also cut part of the adhesive border so that it was slimmer to reduce the surface that irritated his skin.
