s/o Things You Didn't Buy

What are the things other people seem to have on their "can't live without" list that you didn't buy?

Re: s/o Things You Didn't Buy

  • We're doing fine without a swing, rock & play or pack & play.

I also don't have the Seahorse toy, but I may get one!

This. We don't use any of those things. I have very little "things" and Ashley is doing just fine. Although, I am looking for a good activity mat for her now that she is more alert.

OMG I didn't recognize your sig.  Your girls are beautiful!!!

Picked up a Shrimp & Grits Christmas smocked dress today for $18!! Hope it's still the right size six months from now!

  • A ton of fancy girl clothes (the girl spits up and pees on everything, so it would have been constant changes anyway) She wears a lot of hand me downs from Jack, and I will spend the money when she is older.

We don't have a pack n' play, I don't see the point (we have one at my mom's for when she babysits)

    No bouncer

    No bottle warmer

I don't like the seahorse...when we got one for Jack, it died after 2 weeks and the music stops too quickly anyway. We won't be getting one this time unless it is a gift.

  • We were gifted a pack n play, but have yet to use it, have gone a month just fine with no swing... I wanted one, but now I'm not sure we need it. What's the seahorse toy?

Oh my goodness.  We use all of these things on a daily basis.  She LOVES her swing.  She sleeps in her rock n' play, and we use the pack and play as a changing table for downstairs.  Oh and the sea horse clams her at night.  Guess I'm just a needy mom. Embarrassed He he.

  • My pack & play is my most used item funny enough - but I have the one with the changer and napper on it, and the napper is really the only thing she likes ot sleep in, and its my downstairs sleep and change area.

That being said, I don't have a wipe warmer or a bottle warmer.    Or a Rock n Play.  Or a travel system stroller (just use my snap n go and love it)

  • Many things. I am kind of a minimalist - baby gear included.

Thank you! I have been a huge slacker and have not had a siggy for ages. I had to put my babies in there finally!

OMG - the Shrimp and Grits crab bathing suit on their website is TDF. If I were going on vacation this summer, I would HAVE to buy that for Ashley. I have started looking for some Halloween and Christmas outfits ....

  • We never bought a bassinet, rock n' play or the sea horse toy and I haven't missed them at all.   Instead of buying an activity mat, we just use the blanket that came with his bedding set since it is colorful and has different textures on it.

Other things we bought but haven't used:

Halo Sleep Sacks or other special swaddling clothes...  we just use a receiving blanket to swaddle and it works great. We have a Halo sleep sack,  I tried it a couple of times but thought it was more of a hassle.

Baby socks... most of his clothes have feet built in (sleepers / pants)  and if he is not wearing pants, it's usually because it is too warm and doesn't need socks either.

Mittens (to prevent scratching)... we used these on his first day,  but never bothered after that, we just make sure his fingernails are trimmed.

Bouncer Seat... only because he hates it and would rather being in the swing.

That's all I can think of for now.

Bassinet/rock and play/cosleeper- DS sleeps in his crib and has from the start.

Woombie/Miracle Blanket/Swaddler- he only liked to be swaddled the first week and I just used a receiving blanket. Now he uses a sleep sack/wearable blanket.

Mittens- people bought us some- we never used them- he really  likes his hands.

  • mittens...we just used socks

    wipes warmer

rock and play...not even sure what it is exactly lol

    bassinet

  • I don't have a swing, special swaddle blankets, bouncer. A lot of other things too. The things that I do have probably is a shorter list. I am a bit of a minimalist too.

Things I have but don't use. I bought a changing table but we are missing a piece and they won't ship it to Germany. We are doing okay without it. He also already outgrew the bassinet, so we have it but don't use it.

  • We didn't buy the pack n play either and I'm so glad because it wouldn't have been necessary or even useful. There were two different rooms we may have used it in and neither worked out.

No bouncer yet either but we may still get one. We do need something for him to sit in upstairs. Still fuzzy on all the options.

We haven't seemed to need anything for white noise.

  • We are surviving without a swing, wipe warmer, a seahorse, a sleep sheep (or any other white noise machine), a big fancy stroller (snap 'n go FTW!), a monitor, a big fancy pump (have a medela deluxe for the occasional bottle since I am an EBFing SAHM), and like ASB said, a million tiny adorable outfits.

We might end up with a swing or a fancy stroller since my FIL wants to get us a gift, but we haven't decided because we are really content with what we have now in terms of baby gear.

  • We don't have much, and I like it like that! We've survived nearly 2 months without a rock n play, a bouncy seat, a sleep sheep, wombies, wipe warmers, any bottles, baby monitors, fancy stroller (hello, $99 jogger from Target), special slings or wraps (made 4 of my own Moby style wraps for $24), baby shoes or dozens of outfits.

We have a pack n play but only purchased it for use on our 2 week beach vacation upcoming in July...it is still in the box and will probably be sold on craigslist when we get back.

  • Still no monitor, not even a cheap audio one, let alone a crazy Angel care contraption.

I haven't bought him any clothes, and he has more than he can wear before he outgrows them.

No Sleep Sheep. I think they're silly. We do have a white noise machine that plugs in, but it doesn't seem to do much for him yet.

The Baby Timer and related apps are way too Type A for me. I kind of keep an eye on how long he's been awake, and that's about it.

No bassinet or Rock n Play or Pack and Play.
