E.A.S.Y. Method

I've been trying to follow the E.A.S.Y method and trying to watch the optimal wake time schedule...We are not strict in either aspect, but are trying to set up some routine for my DS. My question is this...if DS only naps for about 45min, he is not wanting to eat when he gets up or as part of his activity, or if he does, it is only a little bit because his last "cycle" of E.A.S.Y wasn't that long ago. Also while reading, I have found that most infants his age (2months) eat approx. 4-6 oz. every 4 hours. His cycles of E.A.S.Y. aren't putting his feeds every 4 hours...any advice? suggestions? Hope this post makes sense...

Re: E.A.S.Y. Method

  • I've run into this issue. If I know Max doesn't need to eat but he had a really short nap I'll either try to get him to sleep longer (this usually isn't successful, but i still try) or I'll just take him out of his crib and playing with him until he shows signs of hunger. I'll then feed him. I just won't feed him to sleep. So if he's tired after that, I'll wake him up even if for only a few minutes before he goes back to sleep. The biggest benefit of the EASY routine for me has been getting my son to go down in his crib awake and fall asleep. I don't worry too much about following her exact eating cycle, but I try.

  • My recommendation would be to cut his awake time between naps by about 10 minutes (so if he was awake for 70 minutes before napping, try 60 minutes instead). Usually a 45 minute nap means they were overtired prior to going into that nap.

    Ditto.

Also, from what I recall, a 4 hour schedule is not recommended until your LO is STTN. You want them to get as many feeds as possible during the day.  We didn't move to a 4 hour routine with my DS until way past 6 months.  Stay on a flexible 2.5-3 hour routine for now.

Also, if he does wake early, and you don't feed him right away, still be sure you are counting that awake time as part of his 45-60 minutes (typical waketime for your LO) of being awake. So, if he wakes early, but needs to eat in 30 minutes to maintain the 2.5-3 routine and he doesn't already seem hungry, then wait the 30 minutes, but you may end up putting him down essentially RIGHT before his nap even though he's just eaten.  Does that make sense??  Of course, if he wakes early and seems hungry, feed him and adjust the routine accordingly.
