I won't be getting a doppler directly because of the FDA recommendations against dopplers and elective ultrasounds.
I feel like I'm the only one not getting one, so I'm curious if anyone else isn't going to be getting a doppler and your reasons why, if different.

Re: Anyone NOT getting a doppler?
Nope, didn't have one the first time and won't get one this time. I see no point to spending money on something that I won't use very long (since I'd have to be far enough along to hear the hb, and once I'm feeling kicks I wouldn't use it).
Also, I woudln't want to fall back on the doppler as a way to know things are "okay" later in pregnancy. What I mean by that is, let's say I'm not feeling many kicks during a specific day. So, I whip out my doppler, hear the hb and assume everything is great since the heart is beating away. Well, what happens if I didn't go to the doctor and it turns out there really WAS a problem that should have alarmed me by not feeling many/any kicks - it could end very poorly.
In fact, when I was pregnant with DS, there was a situation exactly like this on the bump where someone had decided not to go in to the OB because she heard the hb on the doppler. Turned out there was a cord accident (I think?) and the baby died later that day. I think it gives false security.

I'm probably not getting one.
I would want to use it all the time and then freak out if I couldn't find the heart beat. I'll be sure to record the heart beat at our next couple of ultrasounds, though and listen to those as much as I please!
