I have had some college, no degree. I have a certification in food service sanitationa nd safety but haven't done anything with that yet. It was basicly a just incase kind of thing in case soemthing ever happened that I had to have a job. I haven't had a job since before I got married 3 and 1/2 years ago and that was just a little part-time retail. I was wondering for those who were SAHMs before divorce, what kind of job did you get? Are there any of you that got decent jobs that didn't require a degree? I'm living with my mom and waiting to start getting child support. After the baby is born tho I will have to find work and I'm just looking for ideas. I suck at places like mcdonald's or any kind of waitressing. Retail was ok but the mall is a 45 minute drive so I'm checking out my options. Thanks for any input.
Re: Just curious...jobs
Is this MUD? Doesn't Mcdonalds cap out pay at like $10hr? Why not live with your mom and go back to school to get a degree. There are plenty of jobs out there that dont require a degree, but you will make more money with one. I was a waitress in High School at Stoney River and would make almost $300 on a Friday/Saturday night. No joke. So if you suck at waitressing, you might want to start practicing
I would honestly look for a better job than working at a Mcdonalds or selling earrings at Claires..

If, according to your ticker, you are only 9 weeks along, why the HELL are you not working or going to school? Is the money fairy going to buy all the supplies you need for your baby?
Did I miss something or are you really just that irresponsible? ANY job is better than no job at all. Suck it up, for your child.
ETA: Sorry if this sounded rude. When I found out I was pregnant I went into survival mode-saving money, planning budgets, thinking about child care I would need. I guess I just don't get how you wouldn't be on it.
When I graduated college, I knew that I only wanted to teach at 2 out of the many schools in our district, or find another career path. I went to a temp agency during that summer and applied for a typist job. I think I made about $14/hour, and it was very easy work. No degree required. But I eventually did get my dream job, and have been there since.
You need to go back to school. If you are living with your parents, you should have a good support system. Your lawyer may have said not to let your son out of your sight, but wait til your parents are home in the evening and go to school then. Don't tell your stbxh.
Is there any type of clerical or secretarial work you could get in to? This would provide you with better hours (most likely) to work child care around and would in some cases, provide opportunity for advancement, benefits etc. Or maybe some type of work you could do from home so you don't have to leave your son?
Put your son in a daycare with a good security procedures. Give them a copy of your CPO. Write and highlight on every form you fill out that your X is not legally allowed to pick your child up.
Seriously, what is he going to do? Bust into daycare and take him? If he'd do that, I'm willing to bet he'd be able to pry him away from you.
You need to look at the big picture here. There'd be a bunch of unemployed single moms if everyone with only a protection order giving them temporary custody just sat at home.
I have a degree in cosmetology. However, I don't work in a salon. I do hair on the side. My main day job is working at a call center. Which isn't that bad. If there is a call center in your area I would apply. They are usually always hiring. Call centers have high turn over rates. It's a great job for when your PG. Lots of sitting and not a lot of physical labor. My pay is pretty OK. For my area and the fact that to work at my center all you need is a high school diploma its actually pretty awesome. So maybe give that a try.
However, I am starting culinary school in the fall. So it's all temporary.
