I know every doctor has there own way of "doctoring" but i was under the impression that after 37 weeks, you would get checked every week for progression. I'm a FTM so I have no idea what is common practice for appts close to your EDD. Have your doctors checked you each week or just as needed or requested?

I have no clue. I thought it was normal to be checked once you started your weekly check ups. But my friend whose daughter is now 2 months old didn't get checked once from our Dr. and we go to the same one..
I kind of want to be checked atleast once to know if I am progressing at all, that might just be the first time mommy brain though.
I had my first internal at 36 weeks. Now she's doing them every week.
ETA: She actually offered to do one at 35 weeks, but I turned it down.

When I had DS I was checked at 34 weeks, I was just checked yesterday, and the MW that did my appointment asked if I was checked the week before (which I thought I would be and requested to be, but told no not until next appt.)
I guess it is by the provider's decision of when to start. It should ideally start by week 36-37, IMHO - at the latest.
I understand what you mean, here, but really, the internals don't really determine anything. Being checked every single week from 35/36 on and hearing you haven't been progressing can be really frustrating and depressing. Also, being told at 36 weeks that you are dilated 1-2 and pretty thinned can get your hopes up that things are moving along, when you can walk around like that until 42 weeks.
This... I was actually 35 weeks 6 days (pretty much 36 weeks). I'm also a FTM...I just asked the OB what I should expect at my next appt (exactly 37 weeks) ..she said another internal & the usual bp, pee in cup routine.
My midwife also starts at 38 weeks. I agree I feel like it's cutting it a little close.
other then a trip to L&D a few weeks back....my first one will be monday at 38 weeks.

That's a good point....didnt think of it that way!
