Tell me about Trader Joe's

One just opened near me. Do they have fresh produce and a butcher? I know the store is smaller than the usual market.

Unfortunately, we can't get two buck chuck in RI:(

  • The produce- not so great;  most of the ones around here don't have a butcher.

Cheeses, snacks, a good portion of the frozen desserts?  Awesome.

  • produce yes, a lot of it is organic and a lot cheaper than other grocery stores. They don't have a "meat counter" per se, but they do have a fresh meat selection. Everything is really good quality and like I said, a lot is organic and natural but not as expensive.
  • I heard the news from my family and friends, they are excited. I've not seen one with a butcher, but the produce is fresh, but limited, not as much variety as say S&S. They have alot of great prepared fresh meals or frozen ones. You will find some great unique things. They have cool nut mixes, snacks (very cool cinnamon low fat cookies), great deserts, pastas, etc. Hard to explain, but you will like it, and the prices are very reasonable. If this one has wine, they have great wine for good prices. I love mine, just don't get there as often b/c I can't get my lunch meat or some specific produce there, so I make special runs.
  • Ours has fresh produce but no butcher. It's super cheap and yummy!?
  • I love trader Joes. They do not have a butcher, but they do have a fresh meat section with ground beef, chicken, pork, turkey etc. Most of it is organic and/or hormone free. Their prices are amazing and I love shopping there because it really helps in not purchasing crap you dont need. The produce is fresh and a lot of it is local, you just have to check for the section that says local. Its very well priced too. The only negative is I wouldnt purchase TP or PT or any other personal product because thats when it gets pricey!
  • Sweet, maybe I'll do my shopping there this week. I love Whole Foods for all the cool stuff they sell but they are way too expensive. TJ might be more in my budget though.

  • We love Trader Joes! It's quite a bit cheaper than our local grocery store. The only thing is, they don't have sodas and some our other favorites. We usually end up shopping at both.
  • hi heather- i'm from ri too- trader joe's just opened in my town, and since ri is so small, it must be the same one!  i can't wait to go visit it this weekend.  family and friends who have been to the ones in mass love it.

  • Oh and the cheese is much cheaper at TJs too!
  • If you like WF's, you will LOVE IT, much cheaper, just missing the butcher.
  • I find they are great for frozen foods, healthy and unhealthy snacks, specialty personal care, and they have a good selection of chocolate. Because they are small they don't always have the vegetables i'm looking for. I find it's easier to shop there making a list for the only items you know they have. Their prices are better than Whole Foods, but not better than the local supermarkets. We also have Fairway which blows all of them out of the water.

My biggst complaint about Trader Joes is that I can never get a parking spot there.
