Baby Shower after LO Arrives?

I am torn between letting my sister/mom host a baby shower before the LO arrives as I kind of want to wait till after - give everyone a chance to meet LO and bring gender specific gifts.

My family and friends think that I shouldn't wait......

Anyone else have a baby shower after the fact??

I wanted one before (logistically it worked out way better for us), and at the risk of sounding spoiled- I find that people tend to buy things that you actually need (especially if you are team green) rather than gender specific clothing.

I have literally never been to a baby shower that happened before baby was born. To me they are totally normal and make way more sense then before. Everyone can see the baby and it's just more fun to play the slightly borning games when you actually have the baby there as a reason for playing them!

DH's family is throwing us a shower 4 weeks after my EDD. We are team green, so it will be nice to get gender-specific clothes (right now we only have the few that we have purchased ourselves). And, since they all live close, I'm hoping it will reduce the number of visitors that we have in the weeks after the baby is born - I'm hoping they will just wait for the shower to meet our LO.

I had one before (with DH's side of the family since they all live in the same town as us) and one after (at my moms about 3 hours away). I got not 1 outfit at the shower before - because we were team green and even though we wanted gender neutral, that's not what the guests wanted to give - I was so upset. So they bought gender specific clothes after DD was born. We had a 'meet and greet' at my moms house and got a ton of stuff. For any future LO's we will be team green again and will just do the meet and greet.
