So after the divorce, my MIL signed up on J-Date. She's been asking DH for advice on how to chat with all her new "friends," an awkwardness I'll save for some other story. Well, she just called Thursday night to inform us that she's flying to Phoenix to meet one of her new "friends" next weekend. The guy is paying for her ticket. She's only been chatting with him for a few weeks. But, it's all good, because they've "talked on the phone several times."

I, of all people, am open-minded when it comes to making legitimate connections with people you've met online. But seriously?? This is the woman who got robbed on her last trip alone because she took a shower with her hotel door open. She's freaking lucky she only got robbed. And neither DH nor my BIL are trying to talk her out of it.
Oi vey.
Re: Forgot to tell y'all--my MIL is meeting a new online "friend"
That's scary. Could your DH send her some articles about the danger of meeting people you only know from the computer?
(read it. you know you want to.)

this.
I met DH on JDate.

Though, I wouldn't meet someone for the first time outside of my city that I met online. DH and I emailed and talked for a month before we met up in a public place for drinks after work one evening. Obviously, he didn't rob me and wasn't a creep, but I still had every friend I know know where I was going, what time I was going, and when I'd be back. Plus my BFF texted me during the date and I would text her back one thing if all was fine and another if I wanted her to call and "rescue" me.
But, yeah, your MIL is probably not doing a safe thing here.
