My two little piggies are eating me out of house and home ? literally. They will be 6 months old at the end of the month and here is their schedule. I feel like it?s way too much, but it seems like they could eat more. I?m struggling with not overfeeding them, but giving them what they need. They don?t have a problem sleeping through the night. We put them down around 7:30pm-8pm and they wake up around 6:30am ? 7am. This is perfect for us because on most days, I can get them up in the morning, change their clothes, then drop them off at daycare/mom without feeding them. Of course, they get fed right when we get to our destination. So, here is their schedule. Let me know if you think this is too much or what I should do.
7:30am ? 8am: Morning bottle consisting of 7oz.
9am ? One ounce of cereal each mixed with one stage 1 jar fruit
11am ? Bottle around 6oz.
1pm ? Bottle around 6oz.
4pm ? Bottle around 6oz.
5pm ? Entire Stage 1 jar of a veggie EACH!
8pm ? Bottle around 7oz. then bedtime after they finish eating that.
So both Abby & Emily are consuming roughly 30-35oz. of formula each a day. Sometimes they will eat 5 7oz. bottles a day. I always make a 7oz. bottle for each feeding because you never know. They are consuming roughly 3 stage 1 jars a day between the two.
Is this too much? They gobble down their solids. My mom thinks I need to add in lunch, but I don?t remember feeding Katie 3 meals a day until closer to 8-9 months old. Formula is what?s important and they are getting their fair share of it throughout the day.
They are costing me a fortune right now in food and I have a feeling it?s only going to get worse. I am counting down the days until they are on whole milk and eat what we are eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If anyone has any Similac formula checks or coupons for baby food and they aren?t using them ? please pass them along. I will put them to good use in our house. J
Re: My two little piggies....
Ellyn Satter would say that there is no black/white or right/wrong answer.
2 to 6 Months: Feeding Your Infant
5 to 9 Months: Feeding Your Older Baby
Sounds like they are eating you out of house and home, but nothing abnormal for their ages. I did add a small second meal for Leah around 6-7 months because she got sooo hungry around lunchtime and would guzzle the bottle, so I would give her a 6 oz. bottle first, then a small lunch, and that helped her to be calmer then.
Have you thought about switching to generic formula? We made the switch to Target brand formula early on once Leah was on the Gentlease (which was pricier). I used generic from about 2 months until she transitioned to milk with no problem.
