We're leaving for Port A next weekend on our vacation with friends It's fairly family friendly and he'll be one of the few babies there so he'll have lots of attention. I've bought a cheap PnP off craigslist in the hopes that he'll sleep on the beach and we have a canopy so that he'll be covered most of the time. Is there anything else I need to make sure to bring? I know I can buy stuff down there but I'd rather not.
Also how often should I push water? Should I mix in Pedialite (sp) so he doesn't get too dehydrated?
I know this is a weird question to ask but how much sand is he going to eat before he stops trying to eat it? We've taken him to a sand volleyball court so he's not freaked out by the feel but all he wants to do is eat the sand and whatever is around him. He's the same way when we put him in the grass. I spend most of my time keeping his hand away from his mouth.
Re: Infants and the beach
Could you mabye bring a blanket for the beach for him to sit on?
I also read that in Corpus there are a lot of jellyfish, so that might be true for Port A, too. If so, I'd bring something in case someone gets stung ... white vineger? I can't remember what they recommended, but I'm sure Google can help with that.
That's all I've got ... I'm interested in responses since we're going in September.
We just got back from Port A a few days ago, and I call tell you that there were no jellyfish around at all. I'd be on the lookout, though, just in case.
In regards to the eating sand thing, maybe if you brought toys (like shovels and buckets and whatnot) he might be distracted by that and not eat so much sand?
I think I offered water to the boys every ten minutes or so while on the beach. I don't know if that's right or not, but it's about how often I remembered to do it. They didn't seem terribly dehydrated, but my boys drink a lot of water to begin with--we all carry our water bottles around daily.
I guess this goes without saying, but if you can get him to wear a hat and sunglasses, do it. Griffin did well with that, but Jackson kept taking his hat off and noming on his glasses, so I gave up after a while. Luckily, he spent most of his time under the canopy digging in the sand.
