December 2011 Moms

CD moms

Those of you who have bought some CD already...

What have you bought?

Are you buying a couple different brands to try or sticking to one brand?

Are you starting with newborn size CDs?

Anyone have any experience with: BG AIO, Lil Joey's, Rumparooz or  FB?

I really want to start a small stash to spread out the expense but am really stumped on where to start. I really like the idea of AIO diapers but they seem to be very limited in options. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks for any help/advice anyone has to offer!

Re: CD moms

  • So far I have 13 GMD prefolds, one Thirsties Duo wrap, one WAHM newborn AIO, 6 BG 4.0, 2 Flips with organic inserts, 2 Fuzzibunz OS. All of these were either bought on a seconds sale or on Craigslist (all new).

We plan to use mostly prefolds and covers for the newborn stage and then use mostly OS pockets after that. If the prefolds work out well, we may just get more of those since they're cheapest.

I'm definitely not a pro as I have no experience in CD yet, but I learned tons from the CD board and sites like www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com and https://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/. HTH!

  • I am trying to buy a variety. I have been looking on craigslist and our local resale shops too. Someone suggested entering CD blog contests too! I was going to try to stick to one brand but the more I heard on CD board the more I am convinced to start with a variety. I am going to do an amazon registry and I started building it based on the jillians diapers trial pack. And I may still do the trial to see what I like(depending on what I get at my shower)....I do plan to start with the newborn and I really like the looks of the rumparooz fleece, they look so comfy so I am hoping those work for us!  Good luck! You aren't alone in this mystery of cloth diaps!

  • I have BG OS pockets and they're great. I haven't used any other type of CD though so I can't compare. I just took the plunge! If I lived in the US I'd definitely do the CD trial with Jillian's Drawers. It's an amazing deal and they've a great selection.

  • Those of you who have bought some CD already...

What have you bought? I have  all kinds

Are you buying a couple different brands to try or sticking to one brand? When we started (and before we were coowners of a diaper store)  we did all one brand at first

Are you starting with newborn size CDs? Yes, we are taking prefolds to the hospital then NB fitteds

Anyone have any experience with: BG AIO, Lil Joey's, Rumparooz or  FB? Lil Joey's are outgrown quickly.  We have had lots of moms complain about kids leaking in them from 9lbs on.  FB small will fit at around 10lbs comfortably and worked great for us (once she was 10lbs at 3 months, lol).  Great NB diapers are KL0s with covers and Tot Bot NBs (AIOs)

What have you bought? I have all different styles and brands of CDs.  Pockets work best for my family so I have more of them than anything else.

Are you buying a couple different brands to try or sticking to one brand? I highly recommend you try different brands.  CDs are like jeans, they fit everyone different.

Are you starting with newborn size CDs? We will probably use prefolds until LO is in one size diapers.  I don't have a newborn stash as I started when DS was 10 months.  I don't want to spend a ton of money on NB diapers though when ds was born at almost 10 lbs.

Anyone have any experience with: BG AIO, Lil Joey's, Rumparooz or  FB?  I don't have any BG AIOs, just pockets.  My guy is a bit too chunky for them, but we've had no leaks.  Rumparooz are also a bit on the small side.  We like FB, I have never had a leak but I always use a doubler or/and hemp insert.  The adjustable elastic makes a good fit pretty easy.

Diaperswappers.com is a forum where you can find a ton of info and can buy diapers from other moms.  Most sell used, but some sell new too.   Also, Abby's Lane is one of my favorite diaper stores.   They have free shipping, giveaways on their blog (It's the cloth that counts), and fantastic customer service.  Their blog is also a great resource for info on detergents, stripping diapers, etc.

  • We started DD at 4-5 months, so we need to add to our collection in some small size

What have you bought? 12 GMD prefolds in medium, 12 Bummis prefolds in large, 2 Snappis, 5 Thirsties OS covers, 1 BB OS cover, 12 BG OS pockets, 3 BB OS pockets, 12 gdiaper cloth inserts, 2 gdiaper covers, 2 Thirsties Fab Fitted in medium and 2 in large, 2 hemp doublers, 2 travel bags 1 pail liner, big pack of cheapo washclothes from Walmart, cut in half for wipes.

Are you buying a couple different brands to try or sticking to one brand? As you can see, we have a few brands. Some work great all the time, some work well at a certain size baby, some are just a matter of taste.

Are you starting with newborn size CDs? I won't be buying any newborn size. DD was never in that size, so we'll just start with small size prefolds. If LO is smaller than DD, we'll just use disposables (unless LO is really early/small and will be in newborn size for a while)

Anyone have any experience with: BG AIO, Lil Joey's, Rumparooz or FB? I'm personally not a fan of BG. We bought 12 because of the raves, but they aren't my favorite. I LOVE Blueberry pockets and get them when they go on clearance, then stuff them with the gdiapers inserts. Works fantastic for us and is by far my favorite option. As for the other brands mentioned, I have no experience with them.
