Exercise Plan for after baby: Crossfit!

My husband is totally sold on this workout program and it sounds like anyone/any level can do it since you go at your own pace.  I'm planning to do Crossfit as soon as I am ready for exercise after my second C-section.  Ugh.

I remember after my son was born not wanting to exercise b/c my boobs were full of milk and it was painful to jump so hopefully NO JUMPING!  lol

I know if I don't do a set program then I won't get a good workout in.  Just going to the gym doesn't do much since I don't know where to begin and always just end up on the treadmill.  I'd like to try Zumba too!

Re: Exercise Plan for after baby: Crossfit!

  • I LOVE Crossfit!  Well, when I say 'love', I mean I love that it is by far the best, most efficient workout I've ever done...but it will seriously kick you down and make you feel pain and exertion like you've probably never felt before (but then again, I'm a FTM and haven't given birth yet!).  But at least most of the workouts are fairly short - a 15 minute session will be a WAY harder workout than running for 45 mins, but at least you are done quickly.  Yes you can scale weight/modify movements as needed, so if you can't jump yet, do box step-ups instead of box jumps, row instead of jump rope, etc.  All the trainers I've ever met are very passionate, so they will likely be more than willing to help customize a workout as needed for you.

I have been doing Crossfit Mom workouts as best I can using my company's wimpy little gym (I quit my old box when my job changed, and then I got pg so didn't bother to rejoin...they are really $$), but at least its something!  Check out their website to get a taste of some easy workouts to ease you in.

My plan is to join a box as soon as I'm feeling up to it, just need to figure out a sched so MH & I can alternate days we go after work so the other can pick up from daycare.  MH has been doing it for almost 2 years now, and if I can AW, he looks AMAZING!  We're 33, and he seriously is in the best shape of his life and has an even better body now than when he was a 'gym rat' when we first met in college.

Oh, and we do Paleo diet as well.  The gyms kinda push it, and its a diet we can't argue with.  I'm hoping between the diet & workouts to get my pre-pg body back quickly!

MH and I both do crossfit, and I swear there are always at least 8-10 pregnant women at the gym in any given month.  And, since it's a local crossfit box, versus a giant corporate gym, that's a pretty high number.  Also, most of those women start working out again relatively soon after having their babies and seem to "bounce back" amazingly.

We're still just TTC right now, but I'm definitely hoping to be able to use the crossfit moms workouts that the PP mentioned once we do get pregnant.

Also, like PP said, all the workouts are really easily scaled, so if there are things that you can't/aren't comfortable doing, the coaches will work with you to tailor it more to your specific needs/abilities.

Good luck, I think you'll grow to love (or, love/hate... Wink) the programming.
