So I scheduled my 2nd opinion consult on Monday, faxed the consent for medical record release to my RE on Tuesday. Today, I called to check on the status since my consult is this Tuesday, and my old RE's office staff said it would be up to 2 weeks before they fax it.
The reason? My RE has to sign off on the chart and it may take him awhile. Maybe this is standard practice (maybe passive aggressiveness), I dunno, but now I'm not sure what to do about my appointment. My OB's office will be faxing their records on Monday, which should include the basic info. and test results, but probably not detailed protocol and embryo status info.
I already took off Tuesday and arranged pick-up for DS from DC. Now I don't know whether to cancel it until they can get all the info. or just go anyway. I definitely want them to have a full picture of my history, but the waiting for the next available appointment would delay my cycling by another month. WWYD?
Re: Frustrated. Opinions?

I guess I might be able to show up and beg, but it's a 5 hour drive to my first RE's office and then a 6 hour drive in the other direction to the new RE. We live in the sticks, obviously ;-) When I talked to the medical record clerk today, she said they don't even get the record until he signs off. Sounds kinda sketchy to me.
Mother Tiger Tip #23: Get copies of everything sent to yourself once in a while. Just request it thru your med records office (often you need to complete a form annually that says you want your stuff). I have an AMAZING "master spreadsheet" that contains EVERYTHING docs would need at a glance. Separated into Tests ran (with results, dates and what I should have put in the 1st place, lab values) and then cycle info (the basic details, anything new I did differently, etc) and then a section at the end that lists our medical details pertinent (or not) to our IF story.
This BY FAR exceeds any big fat chart of jumbled mess, and lots of docs have commented how amazing it is. It took some doing to set it up, but now it's pretty easy just to update, backup, and print out a hard copy.
(Of course, you know how crazy my story is, yours would be a bit easier to make)
GL getting things ready in time, I know it sucks!
That's a very good idea. I do have a bunch of stats, thanks to my blog, but I really need to organize it. Maybe that would be enough to give her a good picture. I've definitely learned a lesson about getting copies of stuff beforehand!
You have no idea. I wish I could repeat some of the things he told me at the WTF (on the day I was having a m/c) but I hesitate to do it on a public forum. His compassion chip went missing a long time ago.
Sigh....I find medical offices do this when they know you are switching doctors and try to make it difficult. If they were sending you to another doctor for a problem they would have the records with matter of hours.
Do you have any of your records at all? I know my RE after each successful IVF they would mail me a copy of all my records without me asking.
I would not cancel the appointment. Go over everything with this new RE tell him exactly what happened. It is likely you will have to wait a few weeks to start a cycle with this doctor anyway. Once they get the records you can request a phone appointment. My RE does this all the time.
I'll email you mine now, for reference. I would just put THAT together for the appt, and fill in what blanks you can. TRUST ME, after shoving that chit in front of TONS of docs, they rarely care about all the bitty deets. That's OUR jobs, lol.
Thanks so much, T! I'll work on it this weekend and think I'll call my favorite nurse (who I lurve) on Monday to see if she can pull any strings. Keep your fingers crossed. I owe you for Mother Tiger training tip #23 ;-)
ETA: BrownEyed, I do have some of my records, pics of the embies, etc. Hopefully, I can pull something together. Thanks ladies! And yeah, DH and I both work in the medical field, and most places turn around charts the same day if needed, so I'm not sure why the delay.
