Anyone transition LO from bottle to sippy before 1 yr?

DS has always been an 'aggressive eater'.  We've had to move him up to the next stage nipple each time, usually 1-2 mos early.  LO's are 10.5 mos and both on Stage 4 nipples.  DS is struggling to eat, just like he did every time it was time to move up in nipple stages, but I don't know where we go from here?  He is taking 20 minutes or more just to take 2-3 oz and then gets tired and doesn't want to finish.  I've tried offering his formula in a sippy and he refuses.

Did anyone else go through this?  DH thought maybe we could try the Y cut nipples for thicker formulas, but I don't know if that's a good solution?  Any advice appreciated!

  • I can't imagine it would be a big deal to TRY it, I would just worry that he's not getting enough from the sippy, but then again, he might not be getting enough from the bottle. More hearty solids??  You may have to try different sippies too... not the cheapest way, but save the ones he doesn't like now, they'll likely not be a picky down the road.

  • We switched the boys to sippies at 10/11 months.  It took a few sippies to find one they were good with.  We were completely off bottles before their first birthday.

  • Our pedi recommended we transition to a sippy cup around 1 year.  She said the earlier you can get them to drink out of a straw sippy the better.  I came up with excuse after excuse not to do it.  I then waited too long.  My DD is turning two and still asks for a bottle before bed.  It's crazy.  I am glad she never took to a paci since I am having such trouble with the bottle.
