Success after IF

Question for the 1ish bedtime routine ladies from below.

Most of you said to you bath, pjs, and story/rocking or something and baby goes down around 7ish. I'm curious, do you and your husband eat dinner before that or do you do all that and then prepare and eat dinner?

We put Beau down at 7 with just a quick pj and diaper change ( I give him a bath in the late afternoon), then he goes right into the crib with a bottle in the crib. We used to rock him while he drank his bottle but he will not sit still anymore. Anyway , my H doesn't get home until 6:30 and so he wants to spend a little time w Beau before bedtime so we just don't have time to eat before. Therefore, we don't like to do  a long bedtime routine because then we would be eating dinner at 8 or so which is just too late for us.

Re: Question for the 1ish bedtime routine ladies from below.

  • Our bedtime routine is diaper change and pjs too. I give her her baths usually in the day time. DH and I DD all hang out for the evening together as a family and eat dinner together around 7-7:30, and around 9pm, we do diaper and pjs, then around 9:30 I nurse her to sleep on my lap and DH and I cuddle on the couch. At 10pm, he picks up our sleeping baby and takes her to bed with him. That way, we have time for dinner and plenty of family time.

  • we try to have them in bed by 6:30-7, and often one of us starts working on dinner while the other one starts the bedtime routine. That way we can eat shortly after they go to bed.

  • we eat dinner together as a family...we usually get home around 5:45 (5:30 if we are really lucky).  I make a quick dinner (half hour max) while DS either plays in the kitchen with me while DH does stuff outside, or DH and DS play in the living room...then we all eat together...we used to be able to do playtime right after dinner, but lately its been easier to give him a bath right after dinner and then have some playtime in his pjs.
  • We eat after our son goes to bed, which can be anywhere between 6 & 8 depending on how exhausted he is after daycare.  We try to keep him up until at least 7 so he'll stay asleep until at least 5 the next morning.  I've found it pretty much impossible to cook with him awake because he wants constant attention.  One of us usually works from home and the other doesn't get home until 6:30 or 7 (we both have at least a 90 minutes commute).  I always do the bedtime routine because he still nurses at night and my husband makes dinner.  We typically don't eat until 8:30 or so, which isn't that much later than we ate before our son was born.

I want to figure out a way to start cooking dinner and eating with our son, but I haven't been able to get organized enough to do it yet.  We used to eat reallly well and I would love to do that again, but we often spent 1 1/2 - 2 hours making dinner each night and that's just not possible anymore.  I need to find quick meals that still taste good.  We never used to eat processed/frozen foods and now I find we eat that much more than fresh foods.

It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • Anna is usually in bed by 6:45 and my DH gets home anywhere from 6:30 to 7:30. So no, we don't eat before she goes to bed. Most nights we eat at 7:30ish. Because he will never get home before 6:30, I don't see us having "family dinners" with the kids for quite a while!

THis! DH works alot of evening so..it's usally just me and J. SOmetimes I eat with him or sometimes I start dinner and we just eat later. We always ate sometime around 730/8pm anyway so not a big deal.

When we do it as a family on weekends or like when we went home and had a big family dinner..we went to the "Early Bird" special!!

  • DH gets home at 6:30, I always have dinner ready to go when he walks in the door. We eat with DD and then she gets a bath and we do the routine. The timing is nice, although sometimes she takes a long time to get down and I don't finish until 8pm (I start cooking around 5/5:30 and am going non stop until she's asleep, it's the worse part of the day!)

  • Nights when DH is home:

we all do dinner around 6 (I prepared it before he gets home), family time - be it a walk, playing in the playroom, whatever - until 7.  Then I give the twins a bath, DH gives Paige a bath.  7:30, I nurse the boys down while DH hangs with Paige.  8 - Paige goes to bed.

We usually eat after they go to bed.  I work 2 nights a week, so I miss those days, and DH works late 1-2 of the other days, so it is often just one of us.  It is so chaotic trying to get dinner for the 2 of them and then bed that it is easier if I just eat alone after they are in bed (or with DH if he gets home and hasn't eaten yet).
