The doctors have ordered weeekly colored doppler ultrasounds to check the blood flow through the umbilical cord because the baby went from being in the 75th percentile for growth to the 11th percentile between weeks 28 and 32 and had gained less than a pound. Fortunately he was back up to the 25th percentile and had gained a whole pound in two weeks at the 34 week ultrasound. So far, I have had the weekly colored doppler but since I am now hanging out at the hospital on the maternity floor waiting for our c-section on Monday the ultrasounds occur upstairs in labor and delivery instead of at the outpatient clinic with MFM here at the hospital. Apparently I am a captive audience becuase I was supposed to get the colored doppler on Tuesday by L&D was busy so no go, then yesterday again they were busy and no ultrasound, it is now Thursday afternoon and still no ultrasound because L&D is busy. I am frustrated because a concern with vasa previa is cord compression and making sure there is adequate blood flow to the baby (last week I was told it was 60%) so I'd like to get that ultrasound to make sure everything is still o.k. I am feeling baby move and they check his heartbeat 3 times a day and do an NST daily but still...
I am scheduled for a c-section on Monday at 36 weeks but considering how busy L&D has been around here I am worried that my surgery will get bumped because they are too busy upstairs with other people that come in.
Maybe I've been hanging out at the hospital too long. Thanks for listening, sorry for the vent.
Re: Frustrated
LOL I like it. Unfortunately this is a teaching hospital with 8 doctors who spend a week on a floor (L&D, Maternity, Outpatient, etc.) and then rotate so even though they had agreed on a treatment plan, the person who is running the floor has the final say at this point and unfortunately this week is the one doctor that I really don't like that is running the L&D floor where they do the ultrasounds. I haven't gotten the impression that she really views it as "necessary."
I understand your frustrations!! just hang in there.:-)
