Preemies

Early next week?!?!?!

They are starting to talk about releasing Gabe!  I am totally freaking out.  He's going to be moved to an open crib today (as long as he does well in his isolette at 28 degrees Celsius for the next 10 hrs).  He has to do well for 48hrs in the crib and pass his carseat test.  He's still having really minor spells about once a day, but I'm not sure if they even consider them major enough to go home on a monitor.  As soon as he hits 4lb they will carseat test him (he is 3lb 13oz right now and consistently gaining at least an ounce a day for the past week).

Oh, and he pulled out his NG tube today and they are just keeping it out since he took all of his feeds by mouth in the last 24hrs.

This is crazy. Until very recently they were still leading us to believe it would be longer, but I guess things have changed (very quickly)!

All I have to say is "HOLY CRAP" (in a good way of course)!

  • How exciting! My LO was born the same GA as yours and was in for 36 days. They kept telling me it was going to be longer, up until 2 days before they sent him home. The docs said they don't like to give sooner discharge dates in case of complications and don't want the parents to be disappointed/frustrated, so they always overestimate the time. Hope he does well with the open air crib! Sounds like you and DH should go out an celebrate this weekend, one last dinner out for a while:)
