NBR: Flat Irons

So I bought a new CHI two months ago from Amazon (second time) and it has just stopped working (the first one did this, too). I only use it 1-2 times a week, so I haven't even used it that much since I received it.

My mom offered to let me borrow hers until I can get a new one (so nice!) so I'll get to try out the one she has (no idea of the brand, though). For those of you who flat iron your hair, what brand do you like best? I'm not sure I want to buy another CHI, so I'd like to look into a few others.

Thanks!

  • I have a Sedu (bought it from folica.com where I found the best price).

Definitely contact Amazon- you might get a new one or a refund.  Their customer service is awesome.

  • I have a CHI as well. I think there is a 1 year warranty.

Although CHI is not my favorite it is the most I am willing to spend on a good straightener. The one I really want (my old roommate had one) costs $300. I just can't justify spending that!

I've used a CHI for years, and only had a problem when my cat chewed the wire.  They have a warranty....did you keep the box?  Amazon takes just about everything back.  I would call them (unless it was just from an Amazon seller)

It was from a seller, but I contacted them this morning. Hopefully I'll at least get my money back. Unfortunately I did not keep the box, so I don't have proof of purchase (never again!). I may still contact CHI if the seller won't help me just to see if they will.

That is crazy!  I have had a CHI straightening and hairdryer for years and never had any issues with either.

You should be able to return it for sure!

  • Mine is a Paul Mitchell.  My last one was too and I used it for a little over 4 years, and still have it to take on trips and such (just in case I forget it there!!!).

  • Well I'm not much help because I have had a CHI for the past two years and I LOVE it.

  • I have had my CHI for almost 4 years now and it still works great. Although the plates are getting a little loose now, which can be tightened.

Sorry you got crappy ones that just stop working, I would be extrememly pissed if that happened to me.

  • I have a GHD iron. I love it.  I use it more to do curls with than straighten, but I absolutely love it.  It works really well and heats up in an instant.  A beautician recommended it to me on a cruise and said its the absolute best.  I have to agree with her.

  • I use the Nick Arrojo S125 Flat Iron.  I got it free at a show when I was shooting it for a promo - so I'm not sure how pricey they are, but it's FABULOUS!

  • I have a Helen of troy from Sally's. I had two crickets that I loved ( salon quality I actually had my hair dresser pick them up and paid $100 each time) and they only lasted about a year. I got this one mainly for trips, it is cheaper, but it works better and has lasted longer then the "good" ones I bought.

  • Well looks like I'm the cheapie here... I have a Revlon that I got from Target years ago, probably around $30, and it still works great!

  • I have stubborn curly hair and the only brand that I have used that actually does a good job is CHI.  And I've had two different ones and both are still going strong.  One is 8 years old and I use it every day, the other is 3 years old that I bought as a backup when I saw it on sale. Both work great!  I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble with yours. Hopefully you are able to get this sorted out with either the seller or CHI!

  • Another "cheapie" here!  My really nice CHI got ruined by a puppy that just couldn't resist chewing the cord years ago...I had a wedding to go the next day and was PISSED at the new dog.

So I ran out to target and bought THIS one to get by.  The puppy is now 5 years old and the straightener is still working great!

ITS AMAZING!  I love it so much.

The best flat iron i've ever bought is the maxiglide. Google it because I think you can only buy it from their website. You can make both sides flat iron or you can have one side that has small combs on it and it actually straightens your hair better than two flat sides. I've had this thing for 4 years now and it's great. It gets really hot (if you turn it all the way up). Over the years, I started at a 2 or 3 on the scale and I'm at a 7 now, just because in time it doesn't get AS hot, ya know? But I spent probably $100 on it and still have it. I use it maybe 10x a year now, but I used it a lot when I first got it.

  • I used a CHI for a few years and loved it. I stupidly kept it under my sink, and when the pipes leaked, it broke. So I went out and got a Remington Wet-2-Dry for I think $20 or so, and I love it! The main issue I had with being picky about flat irons was that they tended to make my hair smell burned (maybe I was doing it wrong, I wouldn't put it past me, lol), and this one is great. My hair is super curly and can get pretty fro-ey, but this one makes my hair nice and smooth.
