Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If you wake to eat during the day

(BF or FF)
What time is the last feeding you wake for?
Baby Boy eats every three hours and I'm debating whether or not I should wake him up at the 10pm feeding because he's always DEAD asleep and doesn't have a full bottle.

I was looking back at what I did with DD and I didn't wake her up at that time and she woke up once during the night at this age (which is what he's doing pretty much).

Re: If you wake to eat during the day

  • If you don't think he needs that 10pm feeding that I wouldn't wake him.  Some babies need it, some don't.  Last night DD was so sound asleep I just decided to hskip that one and see how long she would sleep.  Normally she only has one middle of the night feeding around 4am.  Last night she woke at 1am, and 5:30am, so I will be waking her up for that feeding again, at least for a while. :)

This is Baby Boy as well. I wake to feed between 10-11pm and then he eats once during the night. I'm just scared if I don't then he'll wake up twice! Though maybe I should try it tonight since DH will be home and can take one of the feedings if he does wake...

  • I wake him when I go to bed around 10pm and he will go right back to sleep.  He is still up every 4-5 hours at night, so if I feed him before I go to sleep it means he is only up once instead of twice a night.

  • For a week we tried waking around 10pm for a last night feed, or his "dream feed" and we found that it messed with his natural schedule too much.  He was waking up twice a night when we did the dream feed.

Now we just put him down sometime between 8:00-9:00pm, whenever he is finally asleep,  and don't wake him, He'll typically last till 2:00-3:00am and then again till 7:30am.

I also used to wake during the day to feed, now I let him sleep.  He typically will go one long stretch during the day too (between 1pm and 4pm, take a 3 hour nap).

Sorry this is so long, but I'd say if what you were doing by waking him at 10pm was working, keep it up.  Their schedules are still forming, but I think all babies have a natural sleep cycle, and I'm hesitant to mess with it unless they medically need the extra feeding.
