please share your (1ish yo) bedtime routine

I am planning to switch up DD's bedtime routine. I would like to drop the bottle and wean off the rocking to sleep (but still have some rocking). Just curious what others routines are like for your toddler.

Also, what time do you start and what time are they in bed? Thanks :)

Re: please share your (1ish yo) bedtime routine

  • I think that we are in a transition ourselves right now...

Currently, we start bedtime pretty much right after dinner...bath around 7-7:15.  Then pjs, bottle, say goodnight to all of the animals on the print over his crib, and then lay him down with his binky.   most nights he just snuggles right in and i can leave, others he immediately gets back up and grabs at my arms...so I pick him back up, snuggle and sway with him for a few more minutes and try again. He's usually asleep by 7:45 or so

He hasn't been interested in the bottle the last few nights...so I'm not sure if its a fluke or if he's ready to drop that bottle?

Will still takes a bottle and I think it will be a struggle to give it up. So I'll be interested to see what people say!

For what it's worth, our routine is: a few minutes on the potty (this is a long story), bath, lotion/diaper/pjs, tooth brush, bottle (yes, tooth brush and bottle are backwards, but I'm just trying to get him used to the tooth brush), story if he's still pretty awake, quiet song (usually twinkle twinkle little star or you are my sunshine), lay down. I'm afraid of giving up the bottle because Will pretty much screams from the moment he gets out of the bath tub until he gets his bottle. We sit in the glider in his room and rock for the bottle, story and song.

This all starts between 7 and 715 and he's generally asleep between 745 and 8pm.

  • ok, mine is probably in the minority group here! we play all evening. bath around 830-9(depending on the night) then a book after jams are on and a bottle in bed!

recently he has been sleeping with us so he eats the bottle in our bed but thats the only difference. he sleeps till about 830-9 am..

  • We haven't changed ours at all. Bath, play in room, bottle, book, bed by 7:15. Wakes up at 6:30 or 7. Not ready to give up bottle yet, maybe in a couple months.

  • We still offer her a bottle, but next week it will switch to offering her a sippy of milk. But dinner is at 5:15pm. If it is a bath night, bath is at 5:45pm. Then pjs, brush her teeth, and a little more play time. 6:15/6:30 is reading books, then we offer a bottle (sometimes she drinks a lot, sometimes she refuses), then bedtime prayers in the nursery, then crib. She is in her crib by 6:30/6:45pm.

Ours is similar to this. Sometimes they eat dinner as early as 4:30 - latest is 5:15.  Then sometimes a bath (not every day), put on jammies, listen to quiet music (lullaby CD), read books/cuddle, bottle, toothbrush, trade toothbrush for paci (we're not ready to give those up yet!), bed. They usually go to bed and are asleep between 6:30-7. Sadly, they have been waking up at 5-5:30 lately...

  • DD has dinner at 7, then into the bath around 7:30.  DH does the bedtime routine (bath, pjs, stories, lullabies) about 80% of the time.  She's usually down for the night between 8 and 8:30.

For the past month or so we've been having DH put her down for the night w/o me nursing her at least a couple times a week.  She has a late dinner (with a sippy of milk), so if we've gotten in three nursing sessions during the day, then DH will read and sing to her until she's nice and sleepy, and then will put her in bed with her lovey.

On work days, if I need to get in a third nursing session (well, she nurses once and has one bottle at child care), then I nurse her to sleep.

    This Exactly!

Dinner 515/530..Walk with the puppies..bath (if it;s bath night but sometimes we do one every day cause it's been so hot out) jammies, downstairs or in room to play, bottle (He loves his bottles I don't see us dropping any of them soon), rock/music (James Taylor is his fav) and bed..He is asleep usually by 715 and wakes 630/7 also..

Sometimes he will also stand right up in his crib after I put him down..he does this during naps too..and I will cuddle for another second and then he is on his own..We have been doing this routine since he was about 2 months!

Ours is super simple and quick...We eat dinner at 5:45-6pm ish, then after dinner, DD gets cleaned up (every other night she and DS take a bath together), diaper changed, pjs on, teeth brushed, book and then bed.  If she has a bath, she is in bed closer to 7.  No bath it is closer to 6:30-45.

It needs to be quick because my DS is usually hanging around, and has to get ready for bed also.  When I am alone at bed/bath time, they both have baths together, then I carry them both upstairs in their towels.  I get them both changed and teeth brushed at the same time.  Then DS reads his books while I read DD hers and put her down.  Then I go back to DS and read him a book before he goes to bed.

We just got rid of the bottle - she only gets milk in a sippy with meals.  She doesn't drink much of it, but it hasn't messed with her bed time routine!
