How old is too old for a toddler to wear a onesie, or does it depend on their size? If you look in my post below Olivia has one on but if we go out, I won't put one on her b/c I feel like she looks too old for a onesie and people would judge. If she wears one to my parent's house or something, I always put shorts on over the onesie. She's big for her age, so people assume she is two, and that makes me self conscious, Am I making too much of this, or would you judge a bigger kid in a onesie too?
FTR, she can wear 24 month onesies, but for shorts she's in 3T.
Re: Honest opinion on onesies
Lol, I've been wondering this lately. Our kids are around the same age.
DD isn't big for her age, but I have been wondering when I should stop. Now it's getting hot enough out that she doesn't need the extra layer. So I don't know if maybe this fall I should just put her in regular undershirts?
Around 9 months DH threw a girl tantrum about Lila and onesies. He said she was too old and should be wearing clothes. She does still wear onesies at times but it is always with shorts or a skirt.

This. I had Gabe in long sleeve 24 mo size onesies in winter/early spring because I liked that his shirt would stay tucked in when it was cold. If they made them bigger I would continue to do so. Honestly I wouldn't think twice of seeing a two year old in a onesie and shorts. Personally though, once they are able to walk I'm not a fan of just the onesie by itself.
I have honestly never thought of this before. As long as the clothes fit, I don't think they're ever too old for them.
It's not like she's 50 trying to pull off something skanky from Forever 21.
I had no problem with DD wearing a onesie with pants or shorts, up until very recently because they aren't practical for potty-training.
Em wore them until she was about 18 months. She would always wear them with shorts.
After 18 months I really didn't feel like she needed them anymore. Em was big for her age too so people always thought she was older. Heck she's in 3T right now and 37". That's the height of a 3 year old.
You are fine.
I would think it would be too old to wear a onesie when they are potty training/trained. I put onesies on O still.
But if they are known to remove diaper/pull-up at undesireable times, all bets are off.
LO still wears onsies but usually with shorts or pants. He has never been a "wear only a onesie" type of kid.
i love that i can layer the longer sleeved ones under short sleeved shirts when it is a little cooler out. I also love that his shirt is always tucked in and he can't get to his diaper.
I love onesies and will continue to use them as a long as possible.
