Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ??? 6/15/2011
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 9.5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? just tired. LO still doesn't even consider sleeping through the night & with teething and chronic ear aches, she has made our bed, her bed. Wouldn't be so bad if she just slept but she thrashes about and still wakes up. sigh. BUT she is a full fledged walker now. She still crawls occassionally but for the most part just walks around. (if only she could have mastered sleeping before walking at least I would be more rested to run after her!)
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Friday for a well-baby visit and to recheck her ears. At last week's appt, dr put her on another new antibiotic. She said if these don't work or if they do, but she gets another infection soon, we have to go to an ENT, who I am sure will recommend tubes & I don't think I am ready for anything like that quite yet
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? see sleep issues above.
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle? I think I probably do more just b/c I take on all of the feedings, dealing with her clothes/laundry, but it is still pretty close to 50/50. DH picks her up from school everyday and that in itself makes a big difference.
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more? I really liked the Dr. Sears Vaccine Book...it was super informative. At the very end, he gives his opinions, but the book is more to tell you what each vaccine does, what its ingredients are, why it is important (not just "you have to get vaccines" or "vaccines are the devil"...just informative). My dr already offered an alternate schedule just that she gives shots every month so you are only getting one or two at a time instead of 3 or more every couple of months. We did decline to get the Hep B vaccine for now. I do plan on getting it a little further down the road but didn't think my newborn needed it.
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it? DH & I had been together for a long time so we had already travelled a lot and really enjoyed our couple life together so once we were married & had bought a house, we figured it was as good of a time as any. Neither of us every really had "baby fever" but we also knew we shouldn't wait forever. (I also had said I wanted to be pg before I turned 30. I got pg about two weeks before my 30th bday...careful what you wish for!
)
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Libby is 16 months and 4 weeks old and I am 9 weeks and 2 days PG.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Feeling okay...still get tired and randomly nauseous. I have had 2 gallbladder attacks since getting my BFP, which is stressful (and painful). They never last more than 15 minutes and I can manage them with Simethicone, but I'd rather avoid them completely. I had planned on doing a gallbladder flush this summer before TTC, but then found out I was PG, so cannot do it. It's weird because fat from dairy and eggs seems not to trigger it but meat and fried/greasy foods definitely do. We had Chinese Takeout the other night and it set me off! So I will be staying away from stuff like that from now on...
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next appt. with OB is July 8 and we'll have another u/s. I'll be 12 weeks and I need to see if they're scheduling me for genetic screenings (I've asked them to, but am not sure if they're planning to do it at that appt.)
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Libby has been skipping her one afternoon nap. She'll just stay quietly in her crib but not sleep. It's frustrating! She's sleeping 12 hours overnight, but we'd still like for her to nap in the afternoon. Sometimes we just end up putting her in her crib for 1.5-2 hours but she won't go to sleep. She doesn't cry or fuss, but we can hear her on the monitor talking or singing to herself. The pedi said some kids just need less sleep than others and that she's growing/developing just fine, so not to worry. So we're gonna go with daily "quiet time" in her crib and if she naps, she naps, and if not, she'll just hang out there and "rest" (and let us do what we need to get done too)!
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle?
Both of us share the duties fairly equally although there are times he's doing more of the childcare and other times when it's me. It really depends upon or work and his school schedule. Like this summer, he's out of school, so he's with Libby all day and tends to her needs from 7 a.m. until I get home around 3:30 p.m. He does laundry, grocery shopping, prepares meals, etc. Then he goes to work and I do the evening routine...bath, bed, etc. On the weekend I tend to do most of the childcare stuff, but I prefer to because I feel I miss out on it all week while I am away at work. I definitely consider myself extremely blessed to have a husband who is an engaged father and will do the diapers, meals, and other "dirty work" and not just want to play and have fun with her.
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more?
We had to compromise because I was really not wanting to do many vax at all, especially in the first year and DH wanted to do them all. So we got Dr. Sear's book and talked with our pedi about a modified, delayed plan. Still, I was devestated when Libby got Chickenpox from her Varicella Vax. That said, the pedi said that typically kids who are sensitive enough to get it from the vax are better off because if they got it naturally it could be lethal for them.
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it?
Mainly my age. I was 34 when we decided to TTC. We had some goals financial goals in mind to be met before TTC, but we decided to go ahead anyway. That said, we knew we wanted for me to have full medical coverage and paid leave before I got PG, which is why we waited as long as we did, since before that I was self-employed and had neither.
I am glad we didn't wait to achieve all of our financial goals...we'll have two kids, two years apart and I'll be done having babies by age 37. We'll still be renting a house for a few years, but that's not the end of the world right now anyway. Works for me!

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Almost 11 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
We're doing well. It's sooooo nice to be off work for the summer, though I feel like we're as busy as ever.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Not til 12 months
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Separation anxiety. He doesn't even like it when I put him down for a moment. It took him a while, but then it was like it kicked in one day.
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle?
I definitely do more. But I work less hours, and now am off for the summer. But he does bathtime every night that he's home (sometimes he worked late and can't), and has gotten really good about keeping him occupied and happy if I need to do something. I do still often need to ask him to do things....he just doesn't see that it's been a while since he's been changed or has been fed. He usually won't take the initiative, but all i have to do is ask, and he'll do whatever we need.
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more?
We went with a traditional schedule, as per both of our beliefs about on the subject.
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it?
Mostly I just wanted to be married! We wanted to start a family ASAP, due to both our ages. But I insisted we be married officially before trying, just a personal thing of mine (I never wanted to it to look like we "had" to get married, I wanted to be sure we both knew it was because we wanted to).
(8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? ugh - leaky pipe at our house (under control now - the 86 y/o house was re-piped in 2007, a pipe seam from a toilet inward flow was not totally sealed behind the wall. So I guess it could have been worse (like an actual pipe issue - or an outflow issue ICK) but now that it's tightened we just need to dry it all out and have the walls that got wet fixed. J also had a big fall and bit his lip and then scratched his face in his sleep, so he looks a little beat up. AND of course my ILs arrive for a visit in the midst of this all.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? n/a
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? poor baby's big fall
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle? I do more every since DH took a more demanding job with a long commute. He drops J off, and is usually pretty good about making sure the daycare bag is packed. I pick J up and feed him dinner. DH will play with J for a while and then eat while I get J ready for bed. On the weekends they may spend more time together while I garden, clean, or run errands. I have always done more, but DH definitely does his fair share or will clean in order to help out.
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more? liked the Dr. Sears book mixed with dr. advice and real world considerations - both likelihood of infection and protections needed for daycare. J usually only got 1 shot at a time - easy for us, his doctor works Sat. mornings and is just 1/2 mi from our house (and our insurance 100% covers vax and administering vax). J is not current so we do have a vax exemptions sheet on file at his daycare. I am happy with the protections he does have and the schedule we have used.
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it? not really - we seemed to have everything in check before hand - i.e. both were done with education, have good jobs, like our town, got married, bought a house, etc. May have been different if we didn't feel so settled?
Poor J! Libby is the same and looks all beat up too with various scrapes and random bruises. Her latest is a bruise right on her left cheek bone...she tripped and hit her face on our dining room chair. I worry strangers might think I slapped her or something! She also tripped a few weeks back and bit her lip! The first time she's ever got an owie that bled. I was freaked out since it was really bloody in her mouth and I was unsure if she had hurt her teeth or gums. But it healed quickly. Oh these toddlers!

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 4 months this past tuesday! (3 months adjusted)
2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? started work last week. it's not as bad as i thought
i guess going through a horrible pregnancy/delivery/post partum gives you thicker skin
re d: d is now smiling, sitting (with help) putting weight on his legs when we hold him to stand. he grasps things, has good head control, and has rolled back to front a handful of times! not consistently yet though. but for a late term preemie and with all the issues we had, i'm really pleased at his development
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
had his 4 month checkup today.
things went well!
the dr. and her assistant were so glad to see how big he's getting
the assistant forgot d was a preemie
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
if there's anything like the 4 month sleep regression, d has it. he wakes 2-3 hours during the night and it's rought with me being at work now. he was sleepign longer, but of course, the day i go back to work is the day that he chooses to regress. hahaha
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle?
we are pretty much split. i did most of it when i was home though 'cause i could and he was working. there are some things that i also do that he doens't 'cause he isn't too comfortable with it. but it's fine. i give him stuff to do to make up for it. hahaha
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more?
we're just going with what the dr. says.
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it?
age. i also had some health issues last year, so we wanted to make sure that was taken care of. once i got the all clear, then we tried.
(8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
hawaii 10.2008 plan ;P married bio ???
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
just over 7 months!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
feeling well. we were visiting my in-laws for a long weekend, and the visit didn't screw up E's sleeping *that* much, hah. i was relieved. he's started pulling up, and clapping all the time! it's so fun
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
developmental assessment at 8 months, regular well-baby exam at 9 months
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Hrm...lots of nursing to sleep while we were traveling (which we normally don't do at all). the lighting and thunderstorms didn't help either - we don't get either here, so that was new and scary for E. he doesn't have a great latch when nursing side-lying, and my nipples were about to fall off. so.much.pain. but really, it's been a good week!
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle?
I do more, largely b/c i'm home more. DH will change diapers, help with baby laundry, play with E, etc, when he's home, but he goes to work early and comes home after E's gone to bed
I put E to bed, did all the night feedings, do most of the diaper laundry. the responsibilities are basically split by who's home when they need to get done. DH does do most of the diaper changes on the weekend though
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more?
I was considering a delayed vax schedule, but didn't actually spend the time to read more thoroughly on it, and we ended up just going with the recommended schedule
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it?
We knew we wanted to have a few years of married life sans kids, and at some point, we agreed we didn't want to wait anymore. A lot of our friends had had their firsts already (most are on to #2 now!), we knew we want 2 before i turn 35, we didn't know how long it would take us to get pg, and we also didn't want our kids to be too much younger than our friends' kids
We're lucky in that we already owned a home, didn't have any debt, etc before we got married, so that wasn't part of the equation.
(8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
oh oh oh - i thought of one! Do you do baby massage? When, how often, and any particular moves/strokes(?) that your LO likes? Any recommended resources to learn some techniques?
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?everything she says now is 2 or 3 word phrases, it's so cute
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?2 yrs
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?nothing really
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle?I basically do everything related to her care... recently I asked him to step up and help me by putting her dinner back in the fridge, wiping down her place mat, and washing her bib while I am bathing her and getting her ready for bed. but I pretty much do everything else.
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more?I thought about doing a delayed vaccination schedule but in the end we just went with the pedi's (and DH's) recommendations
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it?we had been married for several years already, traveled, etc. and while I didn't want kids right away after getting married, I also didn't want to wait until I was much older to start a family. I was out of school and DH was still in school, but waiting until he is completely done (in 2014) was way too long to wait for me, esp since we married in 2005 and I'll be 35 in 2014. looking at how much having a baby has changed things, I am really glad that we had time to just be "us" first before introducing a little one to the mix (esp since it's caused a lot of strain on our relationship)

My Food Blog - Good Eats 'n Sweet Treats
(1) Christian was born August 2010... wow! he'll be 1 soon
(2) I'm feeling exhausted. LO isn't sleeping through the night, yet. Sometimes he's alseep for three-four hours, wakes up so I nurse him and then goes back to sleep, but only for another two or three hours; repeat until morning. Good news is that he's hit the crawling and creeping milestone.
(3) New to the island, so found out LO's next appointment isn't until he's 12 months.
(4) New to the board... what's BR?
(5) I'm staying at home while DH goes to work. I guess I take care of him more. When DH comes home, he ususally cooks while I hang out with LO. After dinner I give LO a bath and DH does dishes. I put him to bed because LO doesn't take bottle.
(6) Vaccination schedule has been stretched out. I don't remember what we referred to, but so far Pediatrician has been okay.
(7) Initially we wanted to do a lot of traveling before we started our family. At the same time we weren't "trying" to get pregnant, but we weren't trying not to either.
(8) Other questions.... hum... I can't think of any right now. Just glad there's such a thing as the weekly check in.(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm not sure if this counts as a milestone, but I went away on an overnight work trip for the first time since the boys were born (or even when I was pregnant!) this week. They've been fussy because of their eyes lately (see below) so the uninterrupted sleep was nice, but I missed them. They're used to going to daycare and Ben taking care of them, so I wasn't sure how much they'd miss me, but when I got home the second night they clambered all over me and constantly wanted to sit in my lap, so I guess they did.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Just the 18 month appointment.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Conjunctivitis. *sigh* I know it's super contagious and relatively common among kids, but somehow it was one of those things that I never thought of when I went through my mental list of Sh!t They Might Catch At Daycare. And giving a squirming, kicking, screaming 14 month old eye drops isn't my idea of a good time.
(5) How did/do you and your husband divide responsibilities when it comes to taking care of the baby? Caring for LO: do you do more, does your husband do more, or are duties split equally down the middle? I'd say our split is about 60/40. He's very involved, but I do a lot of the little things like making them breakfast, washing clothes, etc. I normally cook and do laundry anyway, so it's not like it was weird that I took on that role for them, but it does mean I end up doing more of the work. I'm also the Grown Up In Charge Of Stuff - you know, the person who book doctor appointments, keeps an eye on their growth for when they need new clothes, etc.
(6) How did you decide on a vaccination schedule? Best resources to learn more? We briefly considered a delayed schedule, but because there are a number of outbreaks in our area (whooping cough alone is INSANE here because people aren't getting their kids vaccinated at all), we decided to go with the traditional recommended schedule. I'd rather they had several shots at once vs catching something potentially deadly because of where we live.
(7) What made you decide the time was right to start a family? Did you have certain goals you wanted to meet before TTC or did you just decide to go for it? We had some financial goals, and some fun goals - like a bit of travel, which you can do with kids but is very different when it's just the two of you! We were originally going to wait to TTC another 6 months, but then I had a pregnancy scare and we both realized it was something we wanted to do right away.
