WWYD? Neighbors

Our neighbor runs a business out of his house, with lots of equipment.  Each day it seems their day starts earlier and earlier and today it started at 6:15.  This involves them loading a truck, and they talk loudly.  Our bedrooms are on that side of the house.  We have been closing E's window and running the fan with hopes that this would drown out the noise, but it hasn't.  He woke up when they loaded up at 6:15. I was really hoping to get a decent last chunk of sleep before the day started (E usually sleeps until 7-7:30).  I have wanted to say something, but haven't but now with a newborn, I just feel like any earlier than 7 just is not considerate. We are very considerate of him, bring our dog in etc...  I know that he technically should not be running this out of his house, but I do not want to go to any extent of getting him in trouble for that, because I want to maintain a good relationship with him.  They sometimes get home late too and unload, but this is infrequent, so I would not raise this issue.

WWYD?  They do not have kids, so probably do not understand noise, time, how precious sleep can be :)

So it is the talking that is loud?  Not actually the trucks?  That may be kind of hard since people don't think that they talk all that loud.  But noise can really carry.  I would just tell them next time you see them out that since your bedrooms are on that side, the noise from loading the truck carries right in and you would appreciate it if they could hold off until 7am.  I don't think that is an unreasonable request at all.

I dont think you are being unreasonable at.all. especially since you want them to hold off til 7 (for me, I'm a loon if my neighbors make noise before 8...)

I would go over (with the baby in hand) and without makeup and just say, "I dont have a problem with the business out of the house and I know your hours depend on the consumer but we have a toddler and an infant so if you have to load up before 7:30- could you try to keep it down? Our bedrooms are right there..."

If that doesnt work- I would find out if your town/city has a noise ordinance- I know you dont want to play rough but you could mention it (this is if he doesnt respond to the nice talk)

I definitely don't think it's an unreasonable request. He is running a business in a residential neighborhood - if he wants to keep doing it, I'd hope that he'd have some consideration and not tick his neighbors off. I'd just ask him if it would be possible to either hold off until 7am, or if he can't, then to load up at night so that it wouldn't have too much of an affect on your childrens' sleep.

Thanks ladies!  It is nice to know that I/we are not being too unreasonable.  It is the talking and the loading of the trucks.  The equipment and gates they use for the trucks are really loud.
