My friend had a gender reveal party. They decorated everything with pink & blue. Everyone had to choose either a pink or blue party hat depending on what they thought the sex was. The couple used food coloring to dye the inside if the cake with the appropriaate color (blue for them), frosted the cake so no one could tell until they cut into the cake for the big reveal. It was cute...she is really close to her family and she wanted it to be fun.
I did the cake thing...even we did not know until we cut into the cake. Our friends (we live away from family) wore either pink or blue based on their guess. I had a friend take pictures and she was able to capture mine and my DH's reaction to finding out that we were having a girl. It was an awesome way to find out!
I just had the u/s tech let us know when she was in that area...we closed our eyes during that time. She then wrote it down and sealed it in an envelope. I then took the envelope to a bakery that I had pre-arranged with to make the cake. So they were the only ones who knew besides the u/s tech before us.

We had the boys open a big box that was full of balloons (in our case blue). We did this in the middle of our gender reveal party. You can find pics and video on my blog.
Get together for a big dinner. Tell everyone that you want a picture of the whole group and have your hubby take the picture.
Have him get back and hold the camera ready to take the picture, then say, "everyone say, 'nicole is having a (insert sex here)!!!!' "
It is surprising because they won't be expecting it, and you have a picture of everyone's reaction : )
OMG- I love this idea!!!
We're actually doing the cake idea with a bunch of friends- I think it's just so cute, but we may have to do the picture idea for our family. Thanks girls!!!
We are also doing the cake thing with friends and family. We will be finding out along with everyone else at the party. I am really looking forward to it! I just hope I don't see anything accidentally at the u/s. That would really bum me out!!

My firends did this too.... It was awesome and someone vidoe taped it . They had a summer "crab bake" theme and sent our invites that said Come get Crabs at R and M Sex party...

We told my parents on christmas morning. I had a small ornament frame engraved with "DS Name". My mom opened it and immediately knew what it meant. For my dad we gave him a book about being a grandpa with DS name inside.
We told our friends at our couples shower. The hostesses had made two huge gift baskets on with pink baby items one all blue. We wer asked to pick the one we needed to keep! So much fun to share with our close group of friends.
