Favorite wine tasting spots in Napa or Sonoma?

We have friends coming in from out of town, and I'm trying to decide where to take them Thursday.  I would like to have a plan.  Which are your favorites to visit?  TIA!

  • Healdsburg/Dry Creek Valley are my faves.  Smaller, free, beautiful.

Lambert Bridge, Armida, Hop Kiln, anything along that lovely, lovely road!

    Jealous!  Have fun!

    This!

I love downtown Healdsburg.  Everything is walking distance from the town square, most tasting rooms are free/cheap and there are 30+ wineries.

There are also several great restaurants close to the square for lunch/dinner.

  • We like V. Sattui - its not off the beaten path, but its got a great picnic area.
  • In Napa:  Tamber Bey (AMAZING wines and the owners are super nice), Sullivan Vineyards (laid back, friendly, focused mostly on reds), and Grgich Hills are some of my favorites.  Domain Chandon is nice for champagne tasting too.

  • Another vote for Healdsburg! My favorite tasting room is Partalupi. Every single one of their wines are out of this world!
  • Our favorite is V. Sattui!  We love having a little picnic lunch there after wine tasting =) Have fun!

  • We usually like to hit the places that offer free tastings becasue we're cheap like that. (I figure I can buy a bottle after the tasting to make up for it though ;) ) We take the "downtown Sonoma route" for this reason:

We like Cline Cellars and Jacuzzi. They are right across the street from eachother and both have beautiful grounds. In fact on Cline's property is the site chosen for the origional Sonoma mission. They also have a mission museum (I take my class there every year). Then we will hit Larson's Family winery, and end at the Roche tasting room in downtown sonoma. (I hope they are all still free)

We live in Santa Rosa and often take the "Hwy 12 route" that is littered with wineries, we start at Ledson and then pick and choose as we drive along, ending at BR Cohn. Not free, but lots to choose from.

If you do Russian River/Healdsburg, we like to stop  at Hop Kiln, Twomey, and Ferrari Cerano.

Clearly I got excited. I miss my wine!!!
