Just wanting to get some insight on how the second c-section went. I was trying for VBAC but looks like that's not happening so tomorrow morning is my RCS. Just wondering how recovery was the second time around after opening the old scar back up and such. How did you do?
Re: Moms with 2 c-sections ?
Overall, it was good. I would say that the recovery was a bit longer and I was more sore by the end of the day, but I think that had more to do with the fact that I was still picking up DD when she needed me to and in general not taking it as easy as I did after having DD.
Immediately after the s-section I wasn't nearly as tired as after my first. I think that not having to go through 12 hours of labor first made that part easier.
No experience yet since mine isn't for another couple of weeks...but I've heard several moms say they actually had an easier recovery with their second. I guess it just depends!
I know that I'll personally be trying to take it easier this time. I pushed myself too quickly last time and I think it delayed my recovery a bit.
Good luck tomorrow!
My 2nd C was so much better! Honestly, I was up and showered about 5-6 hours after surgery. I took pain meds throughout the first night but didn't need anything after that. I can't express how much better it was both recovery and emotionally (I was not prepared at all for my first C, total shock).
I had my DD on a tuesday and was home friday afternoon playing at the park with my oldest (playing, means walking around, etc.) My biggest fear was not being able to take care of my oldest since this was going to be a huge transition for him as well and that was so NOT the case.
Wishing you the best!
I had a much harder time with my 2nd. I think it was because of a few factors-I got really sick the day of and the vomiting irritated my incision/stomach muscles and I had my DH home for 3 weeks which was a gift and a curse. I rested more the 2nd time around-my logic was that I'd heal quicker if I let myself rest more, which totally backfired. I think if you get up and moving, it does make you recover faster. I think that's why my 1st recovery was so quick.
FWIW, my OB said that my 2nd section recovery would most likely be easier than the 1st, as that's what many of his patients say. I guess there's always gotta be an exception to the rule!
Good luck tomorrow!
It always shocks me to hear people say this! I think I took pain meds until I ran out, haha. I honestly needed them though...especially those first couple nights. I remember constantly asking the nurses if it was time for my next dose.
I always thought I had a high pain tolerance...I guess not!
The c-section itself was harder the second time (the surgery). Only because the spinal block (versus epidural I had in place when they did the emergency c-section the first time) really made me woozy, nauseous during surgery, etc.
But the recovery? Cake-walk! I had my surgery 6p.m. on Thursday and was home and functional Saturday at noon.
My first one was unplanned and happened after laboring 12 hours. I had the epidural the first time as well. With the 2nd one, the worst part was preparing for it - I was scared to death for about a month beforehand, while I only had an hour to get scared for the surgery the first time.
With the 2nd one I had the spinal, which was a LOT better than the epidural. Because I didn't labor all day before the surgery my body wasn't quite as worn out. It was early in the day so it was easy to stay on top of getting pain meds and everything on time. My first c/s was at 8pm and by the time I could get meds they couldn't find anyone to bring them to us (something about the in-house pharmacy people).
Overall it was a quick recovery and I was out of bed the same day, I think; better than the first time around. I'd say soreness and pain meds lasted equally as long as they did after the first c/s (which was a pretty fast recovery as far as most c/s go), but I was able to get up and moving a bit sooner the 2nd time around.
Mine were both great! The 2nd was even a bit easier because I knew what to expect and do. I requested the catheter out asap, got up and walked as soon as that was done, stayed ahead of the pain by taking my meds on time, etc.
I felt really good by the time I went home and had no issues lifting DS or functioning normally. Good luck to you!
