DS has a GI appt in a week. He will be 2 months old. He had blood in his stool while in the NICU. He's been fine ever since I went dairy and soy free. Recently he's been spitting up a lot more and sounding congested so reflux is a possibilty too. I'm just wondering what happens at these appts. Do they just go based on what I tell them or do they do some kind of testing? I'm so lost. DD has a milk and egg allergy but she was 13 months when diagnosed and it's mild.

Re: GI appt
I am trying to think back and remember my daughter's first GI appointment. I just remember talking to the doctor and telling him EVERY symptom. I would think with the symptoms your son has, the GI will refer you to an allergist for testing and give you a prescription for a reflux med.
I am not sure what kind of testing they can do for the first appointment. I am sure it will be more of a talking appointment. GL!
DS had blood and mucous in his stool-They did a quick test to confirm. He was weighed/length check and we listed all his symptoms. She felt his stomach, checked his hips, etc. Be clear with every symptom. I was second guessing myself, which is a strange thing to do. We didn't have any allergy testing. I went on an elimination diet and DS went on Elecare exclusively for 2 weeks while I pumped(his symptoms cleared within 24 hours).
Good luck!
